270 - Reloader 19/IMR 4831 - 130gr.

I have a bunch of powder in both of these but have never played with them in the 270...But I have heard how great both of these can be in the cartridge. The Nosler 7 and 8 manuals don't list either one for 130 grain loads...

Anyone out there got load data to work on and up to with these powders....I plan to push these as hot as safely possible until accuracy falls off.
 
Both have worked excellent in my time with plain old 270 Wins. 130's to 150's. Either powder will get good speeds with those bullets.

I have used IMR-4831 for a good while now. I loaded 130 grain sierra bullets and nosler PT,s starting in 1982 as I recall. Yes it can be an outstanding powder in a .270. To this day it remains my go to powder. I have been a long time user of nosler manual no.1 for powder charges. Never had an issue with any .270 loads listed in that manual. Any 130 grain nosler bullet powered by 57 gr. max load from manual no.1 went well over 3000 fps. in my rifles. No help with RL-19 as I have never used any. :)
 
I started using IMR4831 in the 270 Winchester shortly after its introduction in(IIRC) the early 70's. The rifle was a Ruger M77 as I recall. This was about the time that supplies of WW II H4831 were drying up,or had already and we assumed this new powder was similar,which it wasn't.

The DuPont data from back then called for 59 gr as max, as I recall,and we worked up to those charges,and (being new to the loading game and not too bright),even went to 60 grains. I even hunted this load in Montana,and it wasn't until we got our hands on a chronograph that we discovered the load was doing over 3200 fps from the Ruger's 22 inch barrel.

As years passed I noticed that most sources said 57 gr was max and after quite a few 270's using IMR4831 another powders, I'd be inclined to just stick to the Nosler max. There is little to be gained by chasing another 100 fps at the expense of higher pressures on the ragged edge.

Nothing mysterious about R19 as it is pretty much just a quicker version of RL22 and will max out about the same. I always stuck with RL22 as it has been a favorite in a couple of 270's I've owned, including one at present.
