.270 Winchester

That's a really nice combo TB78 I really like SS/Walnut as well. How about a few more details on your lightweight 270 in the works? A 1 in 8 270 Win sounds really nice and will definitely spin any 277 bullet out there.

Beautiful rifle, the 270win was Sir Jack's favourite ! I only recently started to use H4831sc I have used IMR4350 for at least forty years.

Blessings,
Dan

IMR 4350 was my go to load with 130s but it was 130 Sierra flat base bullets. I decided to try some different powders with the 130 Partition since I don't have any IMR-4350 on hand. I tried some H-4831sc and got 2940 fps with 60 grs. The group was slightly larger. Of course O'Connors load for 130 partitions was 62grs of H-4831.

My lightweight build is as follows

Rem 700 that has been trimmed of excess metal (4-4.5oz removed)

Fluted and skeletonized bolt

Featherweight 1-8 twist barrel PAC nor barrel

Wildcat lightweight stock

Rifle basics trigger

I'm hoping it weighs around 6 pounds scoped
Talley lightweight ring/bases and luepold vx11 3-9x40 with CDs turret.

TB78 you will hardly know that you are packing that rifle. It looks to be done right :)!

Blessings,
Dan

This rifle is the inspiration of my 270 build. This one comes in under 5 pounds scoped, but since I was starting with a long action instead of a model 7, I can’t get a lone wolf stock anymore the wildcat is 10oz heavier, and I’m going to use a longer barrel. If I can get this 270 within a pound heavier I’ll be lucky. But then even if it weighs 6.25-6.5 it will still be an excellent mountain rifle.

That will be an awesome rifle for carrying in the mountains, that is for certain. What bullet do you plan on running out of it?

I use to have a .270 Win & it's the only rifle I have ever sold, not because of Caliber but because it jammed while out hunting Antelope in Wyoming. I never had confidence in it again so I sold it. At that time in my life I had Magnum fever & wanted a flatter shooting rifle & went to a .264 Win Mag. Truth be told I have never shot anything with my .264 WM that I could not of done with a .270 Win. My Brother & Best Friend both shoot .270 Win for Deer & Antelope, with my brother who owns a 300 Weatherby Mag. 340 Weatherby Mag & a 30-06 but he likes his Remington CDL .270 Win the most & hunts with it when I think he might be better served by one of his other rifles. The .270 Win. gets it done with less recoil than most other calibers. Good Hunting

I think I'm zeroing in on the 130 Partition load for my 700 Classic. I backed off a bit on the powder and seated the bullet in. I moved it back gradually and this load is 0.030 off the lands.

The load: .277 130gr Nosler Partition
Winchester Case
61.0 grs Reloder 22.
OAL. 3.395 (0.030 off lands)
average velocity: 3103 fps 0.89 standard deviation

I just hate that third shot when you got two cutting each other and you get impatient on the third. I'm gonna load up ten rounds and see if it remains consistent.
