Shot my two WSM's yesterday. These two have always been pretty good shooters. Just put a SWFA 6X MilQuad on my 270 and the 7 has an older 3x9 Minox on it.

The load I've ran in the 7 was 67 grains of RL22, WW cases, CCI250 and good old 160 AB's. They were quite a lot faster than I remembered. I always remembered them around 3090, but today was a touch more. Doesn't matter too much since I plan on dropping back to 140 PTs and getting a load going for the 140 BBC's.

The 270 shot okay as well. Running the old load of 150 PTs, 65.5 RL22, CCI250's and WW nickel cases.

I also had some of the 150 ABLRs I'd tried to make work. Good speed but this was about as good as I could ever get them. I messed with powders and tried to tweak seating depth but I could never get two solid, consistent groups.

Pretty comforting to see that performance, Scotty. Interesting that the 150 g ABLR doesn't give the accuracy witnessed with the Partitions. The 7WSM has always been a favourite for me, though it seems sometimes to be treated as a red-headed step-child. I need to work with it more. It has, however, taken several head of game, the most memorable of which was a large mule deer buck taken at twenty yards as he walked up to me. Ambushes are always sweet.

Scotty,

You have a couple of real shooters there. I think if you keep at it, you will figure out that makes the 150 gr ABLR tick in that rifle.

Man Scotty you are as sick as the rest of us! Here you have an awesome bullet at wonderful speeds in that 7mm WSM and yet you feel the need to tweak and try something different. Glad I'm not the only one! Both look like shooters.

As for that 270 WSM my gosh man what is wrong with that Partition? If you must go AccuBond maybe you should just try the 140 gr. AccuBond in it. Hear lots of folks that have some problems finding the right load with the ABLR's..

David

looks good to me Scotty . I've never played with the ABLR's , but I have also read they are hard to figure out .

The 270 will continue to be fed a steady diet of 150 PTs fellas. Reason being is I have a whole bunch of the Nosler Partition Golds and a steady amount of 150 BBCs for the rifle. I developed this load quite awhile ago, kinda looks like I need to bump it back and pull that 3rd shot together.

David, up until I got the 7mm Mashburn I was nutty about how the 160 AB shot in this rifle. Since the Mashburn does it and the 175 about a 100 FPS faster I believe I'm going to run some 140 PTs and try to pair it with the stash of 140 BBCs I have. I do like the 7 WSM.. It has always performed excellent for me.

JD/Jim, with the way those two shoot my favorite bullets, it'll be unlikely I'll mess with the ABLRs. Maybe once I rebarrel the MSM for a tighter twist, but for now I'm pretty happy with how they shoot PTs and ABs.

The 270 took my largest bull elk to date with a 140 AB... I'm a believer.

Always enjoy reading about your range results. Both of those are shooting well and with the 7mm WSM you always can go back to your 160 gr load if for some reason the 140's don't work. How are you liking the SFWA 6X scope? Hear lots of good things about them, too bad they are unavailable on this side of the border.

Love that 6X Gerry. Great optics and it's tough enough to club animals with if you put it in a set of QD mounts.

I do like it a lot. I've got two of them and it wouldn't hurt my feelings to add another.

...why would you cripple a perfectly good 7mag by trying to turn it into a .270???

...seriously tho, what's the size/ weight difference between your 7 WSM/ 7 MSM??? W/ the same bullet, even 200fps. faster, the difference in terminal ballistics will be almost unrecognizable until you're well beyond 600yds. A nice, lite, compact rifle w/ credible ballistics makes those mts. just a hair shorter...

Could come in quite handy if you run out of ammo  Good to know they are good, glad you like them :)

Well, I have a good start with the 140 PTs in the 7mm WSM.

So I went with 68.5 and through some different seating depths at it.

So I loaded a few more up at 3.325 COAL in order to retest but I think I've got it.

Next up will be a few 140 BBCs at 300 to see if they print the same... That little 7mm has made pretty quick work of any Bullet I've put through it.

The 140s have to be singing out of the WSM, Scotty. You are definitely moving in the right direction.

Very nice! Sure do like the WSM's.

Same here. The 270 WSM is probably my favorite. I have had a 300, but haven't had a 325 WSM up to this point, but the 7 and 270 are good cartridges in my opinion. Seem to be pretty danged easy to load for as well.

Should have a chance to get after the 270 this weekend with the 150 PT's.

Did you not like the 300 WSM? I picked this one up last year and worked up a load with 150 gr NBT over Varget that shot pretty good. I have also loaded up some 150 gr. E-Tips but have not had a chance to shoot them yet.

My 300 was just about like yours, just the blued model. I liked the rifle a lot BUT as much as I tried I couldn't MAKE that rifle like 200 ABs and sold it during a fit. Wished I would not have sold it now, changed out the trigger spring and it was a pleasure to shoot. It shot 180 ABs and 200 PTs really well, I was just being silly at that moment in time.

Yours is a great looking rifle. Those Stainless Featherweights sure are nice...

Good shooting and I am as well a big fan of the 7mm WSM. My Montana is my go-to rifle anymore and goes on pretty much all of my hunts. I also had good results with 160gr Accubonds and RL-22 in mine, but the Swift SI 2 bullet is what I prefer to use due to speed and accuracy.

Scotty,

Looks like the 7 WSM is ready to rock n roll.
The 140 gr PT would make for a flat shooting elk round and pure poison on WT deer.

Scotty,
The WSMs are always fun. I've played with them all. The 7 and 300 went down the road for various reasons. The 325 is my darling; I've taken 13 animals with it in 6 years. It shoots the 220 Sierras into a 1/2". The 270 has been fun but I couldn't get it to shoot the ABLRs either. It went to the smith to be turned into a 6.5WSM. I have a 375 barrel that is begging for attention maybe a 375WSM? 8)

Scott
