Has anybody had any luck with R22 & 140 gr Accubonds in a 280 Rem (mine has a 23" Bartlein barrel)?

Nosler #7 doesn't list it in their load data and I've been wanting to try the AB's and I've got a whole lot of R22 sitting around. My thought was to use load data from Sierras manual for the 140 gr GK's as a starting point and work up from there.

Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum.
57.0 grs RL 19 with a 140 gr in the 280 Rem was my go to load and shot sub MOA in 3 different rifles.

RL 22 should work but would be better suited to heavier bullets. Use the Sierra load data and work up.

Thanks.

I agree that R-22 might be a tad slow but I'll give a try anyway. It's been giving me really good results with 140 gr. TTSX's so I thought I'd give it a run with some AB's.

I about fell over when I stopped at the LGS and they had 3-5 lb jugs of R-19. I almost picked one up, but I've already got about 8 lbs of R-22, which will last me 4 years.

Welcome aboard; always glad to have another individual identifying himself/herself with the Model 70.

Here's a little data to get you going.

I've used RL22 with other 140 grain bullets with reasonable success in the 280, though I've gravitated toward N165 in more recent days. Great cartridge and a great bullet.

Cartridge : .280 Rem.
Bullet : .284, 140, Nosler AccuBond 59992
Useable Case Capaci: 60.104 grain H2O = 3.902 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.330 inch = 84.58 mm
Barrel Length : 23.0 inch = 584.2 mm
Powder : Alliant Reloder-22

Welcome to the forum, I really believe you are going to enjoy this group of hunters & shooters :).
There is lots of experience & a ton of knowledge .
I am looking forward to getting to know you.

Blessings,
Dan

Superformance, RL-19 and H-4350 gave great shot groups using 140gn Sierra Game Kings. Work on the bullet seating depth to change pressures and close groups. The 140AB is a fine bullet so put it where it can do the work and you'll be happy.

That sure got your attention, Mike! There are at least two shooters in NE.

Another Nebraska .280 Shooter!

Where in NE?

Live in Omaha. Grew up on a farm about 20 miles south of Lexington. I'm still not used to living in this concrete jungle.

Where are you at?

.280 always gets the attention Mike

While it is true that I have the identical rifle to you (Remington Ann. Model), I do throw in a Model 70 Featherweight a well. Either shoots very accurately and has always managed to bring home game. I confess that the 280 is about perfect for all my hunting here in BC.

I've got a 25-06 & 243 (both Model 70's) along with the 280, but 9 times out of 10, I grab the 280 when I head out. There's just something about it.

I've only killed one big game animal with something other than a .280. It was my first deer killed with a Sauer 200 in .243. I have 2 .280's. A custom and the Anniversary that Dr Mike has as well.

A .280 in my possession has accounted for about every type of game I can take legally here in British Columbia. I tagged elk and mule deer last fall--both one-shot kills. Either of my rifles just seems to fit my hand. I had previously owned a Featherweight XTR chambered in .280; I should never have let that one slip my grasp. However, those I have now acquit themselves most honourably whenever they accompany me afield.

I am looking forward to bringing home game this fall with my new RMR in the 280AI. So many of the the forum members have talked so highly of them that I know that I made the right choice 8)!
The 284 is almost the perfect calibre in my humble opinion.

Blessings,
Dan
