.300 H&H Model 70.... New chambering

As luck would have it, Graf's has a goodly supply of unprimed .300 H&H brass!

AND, check-out the web; lots of brass out there, also!

Oh why, why, why?? If there's a belted mag I'd like to have in my safe it's the .300 H&H! And they're going to chamber the M70 for it? I might be persuaded to forget about my Whelen if I have to give something up for one of these.

I can't believe I said that.

I love my Whelen, but I would drop it in a second for an Holland's Super Thrirty in an M70...

But can we get a Super Grade that's not going to push 10 pounds ready to go?

Stop picking on the Whelen, get rid of your 30-06's and 300 mags first :)

The 300 H&H is an ultra cool round......

I'm not picking on my Whelen; if I could afford it, I would cannibalize a Sporter M70 .270 and build a brother to my Whelen 700 Classic. But I've wanted an M70 Ooch and Ooch since I was in about seventh grade.

Do what I did and buy one off GB for under $300 and go from there. I'm building my Whelen one piece at a time even though I get confused from time to time by the post about other great calibers here which I won't mention and get confused again.
I have always wanted a 300 H&H but ended up with it's big brother the 300Wby. which I won at a raffle.
The 300 H&H helped to make the M70 famous as a long range target rifle winning quite a few matches and dominating the sport for a while just like the 30-06 and 308 which is still being used by some today.

Man, Rodger, I agree with that. That is the reason I refuse to mention the 9.3X64 or the 9.3X62--I'd just get confused. And man, should anyone speak of the 26 Nosler, it would just make things tougher. Then, when you hear someone talking about the .280, it just creates great problems for the conscientious gun crank. Fortunately, there aren't many talking about the 338-06, or I'd be in a dither. That is the reason that I, like you, just refuse to engage in these speculative ventures.

Now you did it. I had to go and read about the 9.3X64. Thank goodness it is more cartridge than I want. Anything in the 375 Hurt and More Hurt class doesn't interest me though I can see your attraction to it as a dangerous game caliber with the critters ( Grizzly Bears ) you have running around where you hunt. I can also see it as a do all kill all type of round with the right bullet and being able to down load it for small game.
Now see what you did, almost confused again but not quite.

Well, FWIW, Rodger, the 9.3X64 Brenneke is a right dandy whitetail cartridge. It drops them right smartly, I can tell you. And should I ever encounter any red squirrels, I believe I'll at least be able to hold them at bay until the artillery can be brought to bear. Now, see, that wasn't all that confusing, was it?

Not confounding but definitely cornfuzzling.

BK, I got one for ya. Find a nice M70 on GB or elsewhere in 30-06 and have it rechambered to 300 H&H and that would solve your problem.

You have to wonder if it was a marketing ploy. It would be a cheap way of getting a quick and dirty feel for the market by gauging reaction to the post. If that were to be the case, I would hope that the discussion on this forum would sway them. I'd be open to buying a new Sporter chambered in 300 H&H.

Yeah, saw that. Well, I probably just saved a couple grand $....

Same here. I was sorta hoping they jumped the gun for the SHOT show new releases, but I guess we won't know for a few weeks...

Still, I am pulling they release the old 300 in the new rifles.. I am not sure how long I could resist.

My GS has no clue about the new .300 H&H rifles. His new for 2014 toy book lists no such item. But he's searching ....
