Went out to Jmad_81's today to do some 1K shooting. He just got done building a 32" gong that is actually a wheel from a tractor, so we set her in place this morning and gave her a quick break in. Its 1/2" thick and my 300g SMK's were just taking the paint off at 1K, so it looks like it will take some abuse, its heavy SOB. Anyways, the reason for such a big gong is to get ready for this years 1K TV shoot in Ione that is held in April. You get 1 shot to hit a 27" target with your deer/elk hunting rifle at 1K. I am going to enter both my 338 EDGE and 7 RM this year, and Jmad is going to be using his 243 with either 105 amax or nosler custom comps.

Both rifles did well once I got them on the gong. My 7 RM was shooting a bit high and my 338 EDGE was shooting a bit low at first. Couldn't tell where the 7 mag was hitting and was getting frustrated so I picked a dirt clod about 2 1/2" below the gong and fired, and ended up hitting the gong! The 338 with 300s were much easier to spot the sighters and get on the gong. It was shooting about 2ft low.

Rem 700 BDL LSS in 338 EDGE built by Shawn Carlock of DE Gunsmithing. 28" HART stainless/fluted, sendero contour, 1-10" w/DE brake, bedded/floated, tuned 700 trigger 1.5#. Shooting 300g SMK's at 2840fps, 89g H1000, CCI250, 3.780" Rem brass. Scope is a VX3 LR 6.5-20x50 SF, 30mm tube, fine duplex. ACI angle indicator and scope level. Leupold PRW base/rings.

Rem 700 BDL Custom Deluxe in 7 RM, 24" factory sporter bbl, 1-9 1/4", with Holland QD brake. tuned 700 trigger 2#. Not bedded or floated...Shooting 162g AMAX at 2950fps, 68g H1000, Fed 215, 3.440", Win brass. Scope is a vari x 2, 6-18x40 AO w/fine duplex. Leupolds standard 1 pc base and rings.

Shooting was done off a picnic table, rear bag and harris 6-9" bipod up front. After a couple sighters with each to get on the gong, went 10 for 10 with the 7 RM and 8 for 8 with the 338 EDGE. 26.25 MOA on the 338 and 23.75 MOA on the 7 RM put me right in there. Temp was about 60 degrees and wind was coming from the right at 5-10 MPH. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

EXCELLENT!!! I'm working my way up to 1K+, haven't tried it yet.

Those LSS stocks are sure nice looking, I sold one in a 300 RUM a few years back and it is one those that I miss.

Great report. The TV Shoot sounds like a lot of fun. Out of curiosity, is it called a "TV shoot" because you shoot a TV? Because you shoot for a TV? Or because you shoot and are televised? Or is there another reason for the name?

Its called that because you use to shoot at a 27" tv. From what I hear now, you shoot at gongs.

Its a fundraising event. Winner gets $100 and bragging rights I supoose. Cost is $20 for 1 shot, whoever hits it on the 1st goes into next round, and you have a shootoff with the other guys who hit it on the 1st shot.

I've known about it for about 5 years now and have always wanted to do it, but just never got around to it. I'm excited about it this year, nothin stoppin me this time, lol. Meet a few new people who are like minded and just have a good time none the less.

Man Guys,

I am very envious... Not only cuz your out shooting great rigs at 1K on private range, there is no snow...

Howd Jmad do?

Remmy,

That sounds like great fun. I wish both you and jmad_81 success. We're all pulling for you! :)

Jmad only had 3 shells left and they were with the 105g nosler customs.

We were not able to get him on the gong with his 3 shots...

Were thinking he has to do a bit of tweaking with his load still with the 105g customs and amax's. There not being very consistent. Hes thinking of dropping down and trying the 95g VLD if he cant get either the 105 amax or noslers to be consistent enough.

Nice Job remmy!

What are the group sized?

I didn't have a tape with me POP, was kinda bummed out, but it looks to be roughly 3/4-1 1/4 MOA, or around 7" on the better groups and 12" on the bigger groups.

I might try and tweak my 7 RM load as it seems to be putting 2 within 3-4" and throwing one out to make it 8-12". Just gonna try and tweak the seating depth a bit. Still IMO, thats a dam good shooting factory sporter rifle. Its always shot very good with any bullet I wanted it to shoot, which has been about 8 different ones so far.

hopfully the wind doesn't blow last year it was blowing about 20 to 25 mph if you get their early you can get some practice shots in last year on my money shoot Iwas just a little high. They also have all you can eat I think it was prime rib and hot dogs for the kids and all the trimings for 20 bucks. I wish more of the forum members lived closer so you could come and join the fun it would be alot fun to meet some of you.

Great shooting. Those rifles look very well set up and your shooting is awesome for sporter type rifles. Good look at the contest. Scotty
