Got my eye on a nice Mk V Safari and was wondering what a good powder would be for 350-400gr bullets. Alliant powders seem to be almost impossible to find these days, so RL22 might not be possible.

416 Wby is my favorite hunting rifle , you will enjoy the rifle. Unfortunately I mainly run RL-26 in mine , bought a case of it when I got the rifle. I did work with Hybrid 100V with the 350gr Mag Tips. If you do a search on this forum I have most of my load work up on here.

I had good results with H4350. The Speer 350 gr Mag Tips at 2900 fps and the 400 gr PT at 2700 fps.

What bullets are you intending on using? By far the Barnes 350gr TTSX is my favorite.

I do have an open 8lber of H4350 now. Might have to go back and revisit the 416 with it.

I have used that same logic, get the the dies and brass and then you have to get the rifle. 😎
I shot the Speer 350 gr Mag Tips in my 416 Wby.
It's a tough bullet that will hold up to anything in North America.

Gotta tell ya boys, the 416 bee makes me shudder and say bad words when I shoot one. The 416 Rigby is tolerable but that bee just gets me thinking about ducking when I pull the trigger. Way worse than my 577 ever was.

I have owned and shot most of the Bee's and the worst so far was an older Japanese .378 with no brake and a lighter contour barrel. Just plain nasty from the bench. Even an older Pendleton braked .460 firing the old "elephant" box factory ammo wasn't near as bad. Still gives me nightmares.

I’ve shot my boy’s 378 Wby with the brake off and it does get your attention.
My 416 Wby is pleasant to shoot with 350 or 400gr bullets. Now the 500gr A-tips at 2600fps have a noticeable increase in recoil , unpleasant no.
I do have quite an assortment of bullets loaded for mine.
