6.5 Weatherby... Boddington

That is smokin. Darn fine shooting also.
Not to disparage, merely curiosity, but won't the Barnes be shedding petals, especially the long range version, at that kind of impact speed?

His BC was measured about .480 from the Oehler 46.

So will the Partition with its front end at those speeds. Both designs do massive damage!

Yes, I'm perfectly okay with bullets at least partially fragmenting in the vitals. Quick kills.

Those speedy cartridges impose a penalty on bullets, and barrel life. Just something for us shooters & riflemen to take into consideration.

I would think the ABLR would be a great bullet choice for a smoking hot cartridge like that. It could take a punishing close in shot and would also shine at extended ranges that the cartridge is designed for.

Is the 6.5Weatherby a wildcat or factory?

I know some folks have been lobbying for a 6.5 based on the .300Wby case for some time.

It is a brand new factory offering from Weatherby.... Very expensive ammo ($98 per 20 rounds)

Wow... That's as much as my .416 Rigby ammo! Eh gads... I'll pass.

Very, very similar to the 26 Nosler...good for long range, hell on a close range critter and barrels.

Funny how some "new" cartridges are actually older cartridges that are coming back into vogue!

I know my older Sierra 4th Edition Reloading Manual doesn't list this round, but I recall reading about this cartridge in an earlier version of a Sierra Manual at a friend's house in the mid '90's while gathering reloading information for my first 6.5 x 55 Swede. If memory serves, it was originally designed as a target round by people looking for a flatter shooting cartridge than the 264 Win in the 1960's???

Actually the 6,5x300 started as a wildcat in the 1950's.

According to noted hunter & shooter Craig Boddington - he just shot a .29" group from his new 6.5 Weatherby, at 100 yards.

Bullet is the 127 gr Barnes LRX at a scorching 3530 fps!

Yowza! Nice shooting. Nice rifle. Nice cartridge.

Kudos to Weatherby for listening to the consumers and also their willingness to bring a new cartridge to market. That being said, I was hoping for a 257,270,7mm based 6.5. Just seems like the 300 based round burns a crap load more powder for not much gain in velocity. Heck, I can get within 100 fps of the 6.5x300 shooting 130's with my 270 Roy.
