What about H-1000? I've heard it works very well in the 7mm Mashburn.

H1000 for sure works great in the Mashburn. I think that’s what Bob used mostly.

BTW, I kinda' like the name "Joe Elk." Might just be a handle that you could get used to. 
H1000 should be just great in your Mashburn. It is certainly a star in the 7RM. It was sort of a standard with 160 grain pills of various manufacturers when I was working with a number of them. That was when Remington was marketing the Sendero. Everyone who had one insisted on working up a load with 160 grain pills, and H1000 was definitely a star propellant.

Yep. Nothing against H1000. I had more experience with Retumbo and RL26 than H1000 in the other Mashburn so started there.
The Retumbo load with 160 AB shot pretty well today, about an inch for seven or eight shots.
I have this feeling that it’s just as much the nut behind the trigger, not that I’m complaining about an inch group size. But some of those shots just stack up and cloverleaf, and there’s the occasional flier a touch high and right. Maybe cheek weld, trigger pull, something. Load is totally ready to go hunting. I need to shoot it at distance and see how it does, I’m confident.
The rifle will get your attention a bit. 35 shots yesterday, 15 today. After shot 2 today I had a pain in my head, but it subsided. I want to go play with a 22 lr!

I abandoned something about the Retumbo. Great potential...sometimes. Like in this photo shot at 300...
Great 3 shot group, and a big flyer. No idea what's causing that. Could be the brass, something else. Great speed, something is touchy.

I started over with RL26 yesterday. I shot 10 rounds from 69.2 gr to 71 gr over the chrono, 0.2 grain increments. I also switched brass (to a higher quality brass) and primers back to CCI250s (again, just because).

160 AB 2.913 CBTO (around 3.6 OAL, 0.05 off lands)
Velocity looked like:
69.2 gr 3140 fps
69.4 gr 3136 fps
69.6 gr 3148 fps

70.2 gr 3156 fps
70.4 gr 3164 fps
70.6 gr 3168 fps ejector scuff?
70.8 gr 3184 fps

The ejector scuff was there, but primer pockets were tight, so not a big concern.
Then I loaded up 10 rounds with 69.9 grains RL26, RWS brass, CCI250, 160 AB at 2.913 CBTO.
Here it is at 100 yards:
at 300 yards. 5 inches right. Wind is stiff this morning!:
at 400. I only had 3 rounds left. First one not on steel, the wind pushed it too far right according to a spotter next to me. For the first shot I held at the left edge of the steel plate. For these next two shots I held about (guessing here) 4 inches left of the plate.
Hopefully I'll shoot it again before the season, but I feel really good about no flyers in 10 rounds, shot at 3 different distances.
And any of you that know me well know I'm really a fly fisherman disguised as an elk hunter. Tomorrow hopefully headed to fish Northgate Canyon on the North Platte River!
