7mm-08 Quick load data

200yds....I wish. It was 105yds. Group is about 1 1/4". It needs some work still, but that's the best I've seen out of this rifle so far.

Where are they seated at right now?

Your upper Varget load looks good. I bet seating them deeper will have It shooting much tighter.

Only .005" off the lands. I know that is not the way they usually like to work. That's just how I like to find a max load.

I'm a bit frustrated with this now. None of the loads of 46gr Varget at ANY seating depth gave me a group worth a darn! I am going to give it one more shot by swapping out the 9 1/2M primers for BR2's while repeating the seating depth test at 46gr of Varget. Anybody care to guess how much velocity I will lose with the primer swap?

Velocity loss in this case will likely be insignificant, if not imperceptible. The BR2 is a robust primer with excellent brisance, whereas the R 9.5M is comparatively mild when tested against other magnum primers.

No. I did load some more test ammo at 46 and 46.5 grains if Varget and I switched to a BR2 primer. .005", .050" and .095" off the lands (3 rounds each). If nothing shows up, I'm going to try 140gr E-tips and RL16.

Nothing stood out on this latest round of test loads. I'm going to proceed with the 140gr E-tip and RL16. Probably won't be for a month or two however.

Hi @desertcj
I have to say it...try reducing your load a bit maybe? Drop back to around 44.5-45.0 and play with .02 increments in seating depth. You should be grouping much better than this at only 100yds

Coming back to this finally. Went up to the mountains shooting with my daughter today. She got to use her .22 and had fun shooting a couple steel plates at 50yds. The RL16 and 140gr E-tips showed some promise, unfortunately my chronograph battery died after two shots! First shot was a Fowler. I can only estimate that 48gr was about 2750fps avg? 50gr is the group in the picture. Now we are getting somewhere! I'm going to try 50 again as well as 50.5, 51, 51.5 and 52gr. I didn't have any pressure signs at 50gr.

Lol, that's my plan! I don't have Big Game and I'm probably not going to buy any unless RL16 strikes out. RL16 is looking good to me though. Trying for an accurate load at 3000fps with these 140gr E-tips. Nickle killing accurate would be just fine for this rifle.

Man, 3K with a 140 in a 7-08 sounds pretty danged fast.

That’s a great looking load though. I’m liking 16 in my 30-06...

The Quickload data I've seen shows about 63,000psi for 3k. Stout, yes....but not unreasonable IMO.

OK, I have several 9v batteries for my chronograph now and I loaded up a few more rounds at 50gr, 50.5gr and 51gr of RL16. That's basically all I can stuff in the case and all of those are compressed with a 140gr E-tip .005" off the lands. It's only going to pack tighter if I seat deeper. Going to try them out one of these next few days. I will follow up with the results and velocities.

.005 off?

I will be interested in how they work for you that close to the lands.

The group scaring that Nickle was 50gr RL16 at .005" off, so I'd say not too bad as long as it repeats.

Nope, not at all.. I’d say if that repeats you’re golden.
