7mm-08 Quick load data

Had a great day shooting in the mountains today. I need to look over the data, but IMR 3031 with 120gr ttsx looked good. Rivaling Varget. Also the 140gr E-tip with RL16 and .100 jump looked good!

This is the best group this rifle has shot. 3043fps, 43.5gr IMR3031, 120gr ttsx

This is about as good as this rifle has shot the 140gr E-tip. Funny thing is that it seemed to shoot just a little better at .005" off the lands? 50gr RL16, 140gr E-tip, 2825fps, .100" off the lands.

Maybe if you get a wild hair and want to try the Hornady 150 gr ELDX...

We’ve kilt elk and deer with the Mighty -08 and this load over the last couple of years. 2790 fps and a screaming BC is potent medicine.

Might want to try Big Game. I’m getting 2,890 with 47 grains BG and a 140 AccuBond. Could maybe go up 1/2 grain but it shoots pretty well there. 2.805 OAL.

Thanks Dr Mike! I’m going to try the 150 ABLR at an OAL of 2.85” with RL 16, RL23, RL 26 and also the tried and true Big Game. Could you run a quick load for me with those please?

RL23 exceeds case capacity. As you can see, you will have some difficulty stuffing a maximum charge of RL26 into the case.

RL16 is really good for max velocities with bullets about e 140gr. I can't speak for RL26, but I'd think it would be good as well but mostly with 160gr bullets. I'm still wanting to try RL16 with 160gr class bullets.

I played with the 168 Berger H-vld's and RL17 .this is before RL16 , RL26 and a few other powders you guys are talking about were available . I couldn't get accuracy and velocity to come together . when I slowed it down the accuracy came around , but it was so slow I wasn't interested .this is a 400 yards target with the velocities , and required elevation . P7310510.JPG

P7310519.JPG

I switched to the Berger 140 H-vld bullets with RL17 . I got my velocity up , I use 3080 FPS in my ballistic charts , and the accuracy was good . the three spots on the top are from this rifle . I settled on the 49.0 gr load . shot from 200 yards .

I like 47gns of RL17 and a 140gn Nosler AccuBond for a 5 shot average of 2865fps out of my Rem 700's 23" bbl. It shoots accurately and kills with authority.

I've seen some loads on this post indicating Varget is a good powder for the 7-08. While I am in agreement I would have to say watch your cold weather loads. I found that when temps went below freezing I had a powder ignition problem with standard primers. Once I switched to magnum primers everything was fine.

Steve99, what stock is on your Remington? Nice looking. I have a B&C Medalist on mine but giving thought to something lighter. I really like my 7-08 and this is a great thread.

The stock is a Bell & Carlson model #2961 in medium grey with black fleck #37

Finally have enough components to play with this some more. I junked all the Winchester brass I had and I've been looking and looking for 7mm-08 brass to no avail but did pick up some starline .308 brass that I ran through my Redding fl 7mm-08 die. I was able to barely get away without neck turning and I have some fire formed and neck sized. Of course after all that, I found Lapua 7mm-08 brass in stock that I gladly would have purchased.

I also got more 120gr TTSX after waiting for a LONG time! Going to try them over some Leverevolution since I have some on hand and it's really close to CFE223. I might have to get some cfe223 and maybe 6.5 staball to try, Big game if I ever see it again...lol.

Cabela's near me has lots of 6.5 sb and lots of Big Game. If I were smart I'd pick up some of both
