8mm Mauser Deer bullets

I have a Rem 700 8x57 (aka 8MM Mauser)

Has anyone used the 200 gr Partition on small whitetail deer?

I hunt in NC and SC and our deer are not very big. I want something that will expand in a small framed not so tough animal.

Looking for feedback results and the Nosler EXPERTS to chime in....

I'm no Nosler expert -

I have a Remington 700 Classic in 8x57. I had the barrel cut back to 22".

I'm like you, I hunt small southern whitetail and I was needing a bullet that will open up quick yet still stay together for those tough angled shots.

I can get over 2,700 fps and MOA accuracy with the 180 gr. Ballistic Tips.

After sectioning this bullet I found that it had a fairly thick jacket and was worried about expansion on a broadside lung shot.
This past season I used it on two deer at around 60 yards and the Ballistic Tips opened perfect (double lung shot) with instant kills and alot of internal damage to the vitals. The 180 gr. is a good bullet !

I've also tested the 170 gr. Hornady roundnose in wet newspaper and it will expand pretty good as well.

thanks, a freind of mine is harping on the partitions in 200 gr.

I kind of like the 180's myself.

I asked Nosler a year or so ago,here, which of there .323/8mm Bullets would be best suited to Whitetails out of the our Rem Classic,Answer 180gr BT.

It worked very well for my Dad last year in GA.

Haven't had a chance to load the 200 Partitions yet but have the Accubonds,but it still needs a little twinking before trying it on deer. Would tend to think that either would do the job just that due to the higher vel of the 180gr BT it would be the better choice.

Would love for Nosler to offer a 150 -180gr Partition or AccuBond for the .323/8mm though.Heck a lighter BT wouldn't be bad either.

The 200 gr PT will open up on deer. I have used the 225 gr PT in my 35 Whelen on many WT deer and always got a nice exit wound about the size of a quarter.
The 180 gr BT would be an excellent choice, offering quick expansion and plenty of penetration, even on hard angles.

Both accubonds and PTs will do just fine on WT.

I can't argue with the advise to go with the 180 BTs. However, I have a bunch of the 200 gr partitions, and used on on a little blacktail forked horn (4 point for you whitetail chasers) at about 30 yards. Good news is the bullet did what it was supposed to do on my deer. The deer was quartering, looking at me. The bullet entered the neck, struck the neck vertebrea (sorry for the spelling, I'm an engineer, not a biologist), which it shattered, and left a good sized exist wound. Having hunted smallish texas whitetailes, this deer was comperable in size to them. I wouldn't hesitate to use either the 180BT or the 200 gr Partition. I used the 200 largely because it is also my Elk load now that I'm in Oregon.
