A trip in the wayback machine

Took a trip with Mr. Peabody in his way back machine to my senior year 1988. This is my first “big” deer, well I thought he was big. Up ‘till then I had only a few spikes , a 4 pt, and some does. I remember he ran WAY down in a deep, steep hollow and fell dead. I grabbed him by the antler and drug him up out of there and back to the truck with nary a rest break. Sigh, to be 18 and full of strength, energy, and plow through defensive linemen again.

I wasn’t so lucky. It took me until 36 to get a nice buck.

That year was warm. Green grass in November.

A hand me down 30-30…no idea what ammo was used. Back then I just assumed it was all the same.

Remington 7400 in 308 Win. That was the last deer I shot with that rifle , was replaced by a 30-378 Wby.

I scoured through my pics . I can't find any pics of my first buck . here are a couple of my first's .

my first doe . I'm guessing I was 13 or 14 years old . I know I hunted a year or two before I brought one home .



I trapped while I was in school . this is my first fox . I'm guessing I was 14 or 15 years old . I trapped raccoons for a couple years before I got after fox .

I got first buck as a senior in high school as well in 1976. A 4x4 muley in Colorado.
