Again, the "only one rifle" issue?

A nice top of the line 300 or 338 mag will do for all of NA.....

That's kind of where I am at now. Figure the old 338 should get it done for me.. Wanna really put some time in with it this year.

Dr Mike, living and working in Whitehorse would be nice, it is a nice city. Anchorage is a little large for my taste.
I understand being close or closer to family, especially grandchildren. A little off the subject of bears or only one rifle, but was wondering if you had taken a trip down the Yukon. We have not gone the entire length, as we started in Dawson, but went all the way to the Bering Sea in a canoe and truly enjoyed it. We flew back.

Sean, why is everyone picking on my dog LOL We do take him when hunting brownies, but we do not take him into the white bear country

John, sorry, missed your post earlier. there is times one wishes they were in Miami--but for me, not often. I think Scotty would be one of several I can think of that would be willing to brave the elements to be able to hunt so many different animals in one general area. Granted it is a big area. You also have to be able to be content with yourself and your family as there are not many people around, but that also works for me.

Hunting the Yukon and Northern BC is a huge dream of mine. I love to be where there is noone else! I can hunt in alot of places and have fun, but I prefer to be by myself, well, with my hunting partners, but by ourselves. Solitude really is awesome.

some women want a diamond necklace and I want a 300 H/H Dakota.

Ahhhh, a woman of character, class and distinction. Congratulations to your husband for having chosen so well.

From your lips to my husbands ears LOL Dr Mike Thank you sir

Scotty. I hope you get the opportunity to hunt the frozen North someday. But the trip my husband and I took via canoe from Dawson city to the Bering sea on the Yukon River was not a hunting trip but one of the best vacations we have ever taken. I know Lori also loves the outdoors, as do your children. It is a trip that people who love the outdoors and living off the land never forget.

Of course when I say it was the best vacation we have ever taken, we have not been to Belize LOL (personal joke with Scotty )

I am pretty sure I could get Lori to Belize much easier than the Yukon...

I have been to Belise! Back in 1968 when Che Guevera had a Communist Guerilla training camp in Honduras (nearby!). I was working on a drilling project in Cost Rica and should have stayed there!

I want both !!!!

I ask Jerry what that makes me and he muttered something that sounded like

"Spoiled B----"

I think he said brat, I know it started with a B

what is your guess Scotty, Charlie, anyone (-;

Well at least it wasn't Barbarian or Boor!

I got called worse than that by a Canadian at Costco buying gasoline last week. They come down here with from Vancouver with (14) gas cans each (to fill up and stuff in their vans) each so that a fill-up takes over an hour to fill up at any gas station when they are around! What I called him back was much worse than B----, believe me! It am waiting for a snow storm and the resulting firestorm when ten of them have a pile up and explosion on the freeway (I-5) while going home with all that gasoline inside their RV's, Vans and SUV's in whatever non approved containers they bring and fill up!

I couldn't have ever guessed! Nor would I say it, just in case Lori is looking over my shoulder..

Baroness? That's a tough one.

Perhaps he said "Belle?" Or was it "beauty?" Man, I'm confused. Tough question.

Maybe --Bwana

but if I had to guess, I think Scotty nailed it

One gun for north america, hunting bears, hunting in Canada, Belize, the "B" word for A ---I like this thread.

I woud use a 375 to hunt bears in Canada, but it would be more gun than I would need in Belize, unless I was there with "Spoiled B-----", hunting jaguars

Actually they used to hunt Jaguars on the ranch where we drilled in northern Costa Rica. They hunt Jaguar with a 12 gauge shotgun filled with 00 buckshot and with dogs.

Hunters ask this question all the time and if we can exclude Brown Bears from the question [as most of us probably wont need to buy a gun just to hunt bears] the same answer keeps coming up over and over. If you reload yourself then the tryed and true 30/06 is hard to beat . If you dont reload the factory ammo [except superperformance type ammo] is pretty milk toast compared to what the caliber is really capable of , this of course is because of the preasure restrictions imposed on the ammo maker.
If you dont reload than the old 270W has got about anything in NA covered with a well placed shot.
I have watched many times to see a huge 70" Alaskan Bull Moose fall right into the tracks he stood in with the little 270 doing the damage. Same on nice Elk in Montana and Colorado . Of course if Whitetail deer and Black Bear are on the menu then its reputation speaks for itself. And if you cant afford a coyote gun just to shoot the wiley one , again the old 270 has got you covered! Really tough to beat it if you can shoot it!
Never forget, it really aint the arrow, its the indian.

"Spoiled...beautiful...." Hes just bashful dont ya know. CL

If I never hunted the coastal bears and branch antled elk, a .270 Win, or a .280 Rem, or a .30-06 would get me through life just fine, along with a suitable rimfire of course.
