I dropped a case in the snow one year. I had to wait until late spring to find it, still lying on the trail where it dropped after the shot. Yes, I went back looking for it. OCD, no! Frugal, yes.

Sorry for the thread hijack, Guy. I'd get the 6.5 if it were my deer rifle. Similar weights, with better BCs, at equal or better velocities to the 6.8. Either will do in a pinch, though.

To stay in line with the OP's question, I would look at the 243WSSM with the 5.56-sized lower. If the AR-10 lower is used, I would stick with the .308Win.
To get on the side rail of this thread, I lost a 358Win case this fall and spent a good 30 minutes looking for it to no avail. I did find a .270Win Remington case with a silver CCI primer though. I think I lost that piece of brass about 9 years ago. Topped with a Sierra 130gr SGK I do believe. Nothing like having a few favorite tree stand trees to share your time in the woods!
