Anyone using RL 17 and 7mm Rem Mag

Hi Peeps,
I know there are many different opinions on powders for the 7mm Rem Mag but is anyone using RL 17 for theirs and how are the results. Any recipe hints would be appreciated. I am shooting with mag primers, 24" barrel and testing with both Nosler 150 gr Partitions and Nosler 160 gr AccuBonds.

I don't have a 7mm but 17 might be a little fast for your bullet choice in the 7mm. Some of the other members will have more ibput. But I believe that most of them are running 4350 or slower retumbo and magpro seems to be a few favorites.

I hope this helps. I think it is a touch fast for the 7mm Rem Mag with those heavier bullets, but still looks very decent.

Thanks! I have not re-installed my software on the computer since we just moved into our new and final home this month.

Yup this is my rifle! I was using RL22 last year but some people have used the RL17 and stated super results so I purchased 5 pounds (before the shortage scare) and have yet to start load testing. I will go off your stat suggestions and let all know next weekend.

Average around 3069 FPS +- 19 FPS

Got back from range yesterday. Had a bad start. 100 yard. Started off not hitting target. Once on paper, hits all over the place. My target shooting partner asked one question. Is your scope loose? My reply. No way. Have not touched it since last hunting season.

Rear scope mount loose and wiggling all over the place - geeesh Corrected that issue and re-checked all torqued screws. :wink:

Back to not hitting the target so for my first time ever I moved the target into 50 yards. Hitting paper and then have it beautifully sighted in at 50 yards and a tad over 3/8" group.
Going out again next week and getting some pics of the groups at both 100 yds and 200 yds and post.

The Alliant RL17 powder is really nice. Super accurate metering (measured with electronic and then manual scales). I could go a little faster but comparing with Scotty's quickload input and my quickload modified recipe, I am happy and content. No pressure issues at all. My 7mm RM luvs this reload too.

A 150 PT at those speeds sounds pretty deadly. If its accurate for ya, I'd imagine you won't have to do much else!

Substitute a 150 LR AccuBond for that Partition.... and that's a serious LR rig. A 150 LRAB launched at 3100 is still doing pert'near 2000fps at 1000 yards.... and packing 1300+ ft/lbs...

I'm getting a little bit more than that out of my 270WSM. It's very impressive so far.
