Barrel spec recommendations

Decision 2025 is in !!!
After consideration and some research I have made a barrel decision. Going with a 26 inch Varmit contour since that is what the rifle currently has and a 1:10 twist. After Guy’s comment I went to the safe and pulled a few #1’s and lined them up for a look. The 26 in barrel looked the best. 24 and under looked fat and stubby. Thanks for all the input.
Looked fat and stubby, but nothing prettier than a #1RSI

1-10 22", I would lean more to 20" than I would 24", but for me the 22" would be it's happy place in this caliber on this short a case. with the 22' I don't see much gain in 24" ballistics, and also would not expect much from 22" going to 20", I'd ride the middle of the rode for a sweeter balanced and better handling rifle.

The 1-12 would also be ok, and prefered if this was not a hunting rifle. I feel the 1-10 is more forgiving with climate, I know it is more forgiving as barrel wear and cleanliness comes into play. The 1-12 will go away quicker with absolute accuracy with less barrel wear than a 1-10 twist will. It will also respond with less accuracy as fouling builds up. But the real kicker is stability will always be on the ragged edge, 1-10 for me is a bit of an insurance policy without giving up any noticeable hunting accuracy.

Picked up the new rifle from the FFL this morning. The weight and barrel length balance beautifully for me when shouldered. Going to keep the barrel length at 26 inches with the Varmit contour and go with the 1:10 twist for the 308. Going to call the gunsmith next week and finalize the details.
