Cartridges you can live without?

With this whole handgun thing happening on this thread why not just let each other have different opinions, it's not worth arguing over.

Agreed. There's no changing anyone's mind. Sorry to have ever said anything in the first place. I should have thought ahead and realized someone would think I was wrong and say something about it. I just don't like being called out, and felt the need to defend myself. I'm willing to drop it anytime.

My wife was attacked in an attempted rape in a motel on several years ago. I was asleep and she told the guy to go away and get lost firmly from our room outside door. She also told him that I was asleep in the room which he thought was funny.

His response was to throw a metal chair through the window with the plate glass landing on me! Now, if you think at this point talking would have helped, you are a much better talker then I am! I rolled out of bed, grabbed a gun, jumped back over the bad and stuck a gun in this idiot's mouth as he came through the window and we waited for Police. End of story and still alive to tell it!

I did not insuate anything about you but keep it up as I am rapidly losing patience with you! As I said, together we beat Bathouse Barrack, divided we lose our guns! That is my point and my only point.

All I have ever said is that "I" have no use for handguns or their cartridges. I don't see why that has to set so many people off.

I'm sorry to hear you had such a close encounter. But to back up my point, I(we) do not stay in hotels more than maybe once a year. And when we do, we pick safe-looking hotels. And if someone ever knocked on the door, there is no way I or my female counterpart would ever answer them. They would probably then assume there was nobody there and leave. Let's just say that someone did throw a chair through the window. That would probably wake me up, and if I couldn't talk them down, most people do not want to fight anyone my size. Once again, I'm just saying that "I" have no use for a handgun. Carry them all you want, just please don't attack me for not wanting one...

I don't trust politicians any more than you do. But that is another matter.

Look, I was at that time a Senior Project Engineer in the Aircraft industry and the company was paying my tab because I was a professional. Do you really think that I stay in dives? Now you are intimating that I am an idiot and white trash! This motel happened to have outside doors and my wife just told the guy to Poof! That was all that she was quilty of. After listening to you, I wish that I had shot the SOB! You are clueless man!

I didn't say anything about you. Again, all I'm trying to explain is that I have a different life that leads to different activities which put me in no need of a handgun. I understand that sometimes you get thrown into potentially bad situations. I'm just saying that I wouldn't have been forced into such a situation, and have the luxury to avoid it. Easy, man, I meant nothing personal...

Edited to add, your decision to shoot or not shoot the invader has no effect on me. I don't go around breaking into people's hotel rooms, so I don't really care if people that do get shot. I just won't be shooting any of them myself.

If you really believe you have that much control over what happens in your life, I think one day you'll experience a very rude awakening. I hope you'll be able to deal with it.

Thanks, me too. And it's not about being in control. It's about being as forward thinking as possible, as flexible and adaptable as possible, and accepting that I can't control everything while holding onto faith that it will all work out anyway.

The only offensive thing I've read on the last 7 pages, was the fact that someone didn't think the 35 Whelen was an essential cartridge.

I had to step away from my computer, take a calming shot of bourbon, and try to keep my hands from shaking. Sacrilege! Heresy! Burn the apostate!

You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning! 9:10 a.m. The only time I drink that early is when I'm fishing!

Man, that hit me pretty hard as well!

ok Fellas let's move on please.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

OK how about this one?

Anybody got a use for a 38 Auto?

Not a 38 Super!

Well, lately I've been thinking or reducing my rifle inventory, yeah I know, blasphemy!!

Anyway his the list of calibers on to potential "to go" list:

Savage (can't remember the model but it has a nice wood stock) - 308 Win
Vanguard Sporter - 30-06
A-bolt stainless stalker w/BOSS - 338WM

I think the scopes will be removed as two of them are sporting VX2s and the 308 has a VX3.

Nothing wrong with any of those calibers, but with having a 270WSM and all 4 RUMs, I don't need them.

I'm not listing them here as I don't want to deal with getting a rifle shipped.

It's actually very easy. The Post Office will pick them up at your door if you ship them Priority. Can't beat it!
