Cartridges you can live without?

Personally I think the 17-50 BMG rox!

Wonder if barrel life is more than 10 rounds?

That is quite the round, Fotis. I'd have to agree on the concern about barrel life.

Nothing exceeds like excess!

Charlie,

You are spot on.
Too bad some just don't get it.

Please stop insinuating that I'm stupid because my experience/beliefs aren't the same as yours. It's insulting. Perhaps you're the one who doesn't get it.

And I'm smart enough to know there are other background issues like gun rights and the NRA. I don't want to get into them.

I was not insinuating anything about you personally. I also do not know you or anything about you. Read my post again if you missed that part. I really have no idea whether you are anything frankly but you arrived her with a big chip and I am curious why you picked this peaceful place for your Bully Pulpit? I get it in spades, actually!

Well, my list would be pretty short:
.270 Winchester (own four of them  )
7mm RemMag (own two of them  again)
.25 ACP (until I get one)
.30 T/C
RCMs
Weatherbys .378 and over (I'm too delicate)

This is all apt to change if I stumble on one I just have to have...

I almost put the RCM's on the list but they do come in left hand so didn't. They were DOA however, the SAUM's and RCM's should never have appeared the respective companies should have sucked it up and chambered the WSM's.

Nobody said you're stupid. Read the post again.

I have to admit though. You are the first person I ever met that is into guns but only long guns.

I tend to agree Gerry. The WSM, SAUM, and RCM cartridges are very similar. I think the WSM's grabbed that market niche first, and after that there was no real need for the others.

With this whole handgun thing happening on this thread why not just let each other have different opinions, it's not worth arguing over.

Man I hate election years.

Anyway back on the subject...

Who needs a 22 jet anyway? a necked down 357 Magnum case to 22?

Silly looking thing huh?

I hope that you are able to hunt this year. The fires are unbelievable this year and seem to get closer to civilization each passing year now. Shown below is a picture of the Wenatchie fire and a sobering pic of part of the burn.

Charlie,

That is an incredible picture. Massive damage that will take years to heal.
The upside is the regeneration of new growth and the game that will be attracted to it.

JD, Charlie & All, that's my town. My home is over on the left side of the photos not far from those foothills of the Cascades.

Guy

You are correct Gerry, I am out of this topic altogether. If I offended anyone here, I am sorry.

Very dramatic picture, Guy. I'm always moved when fire moves toward a town. I know the heartache people experience at the loss of a lifetime of memories and accumulated possessions.

Exactley gerry ! or Fighting over either ! RJ

No fighting, just wondering why we have an issue on this at all? Seems petty and stupid! We are all shooters and Bathouse Barrack would take our guns in a nanosecond if we show and weakness. That is my issue!

The only offensive thing I've read on the last 7 pages, was the fact that someone didn't think the 35 Whelen was an essential cartridge.

I had to step away from my computer, take a calming shot of bourbon, and try to keep my hands from shaking. Sacrilege! Heresy! Burn the apostate!

Just bullet choices and a little advantage with BC, the .358 Win and .338 Fed really are pretty close. No heatburn there!

My post wasn't directed at you. I chose not to reply to your post. And I'm not the one attacking people, just defending my position on an issue that is definitely "in the gray". In fact, I blatantly said I have no problem with you all carrying your handguns. All I have done so far is give reasons why I do not and to defend myself. Unfortunately, this "peaceful place" has taken the chance to attack my beliefs because they're different. It boils down to you all thinking I'm naive or stupid, and I think you all are paranoid(not an insult). You all "know" you are right, and I "know" I'm right. But the truth is that nobody is right and nobody is wrong. When people stop attacking my beliefs without even taking the time to consider my position, I will stop defending myself. And before you ask, yes, I have considered the other side of this issue several times and at depth.

If I had wanted to address your post, I would have simply asked that you consider if there weren't any way at all that measures couldn't have been taken to avoid even being in your situation of drawing your gun. I bet that if you are honest with yourself, you can think of some preventative measure that could have been taken well before the situation escalated to that point. I would have also suggested that there's no way you could know that the situation couldn't have still been resolved without the gun. And finally, I would have asked if that took place in New Jersey. And if that is true, then continuing to have no desire or reason to ever visit anywhere between Washington, D.C. and Boston is yet another preventative measure that I am already taking against being in a similar situation.
