Chili!

Polaris,

Hardwood Charcoal all the way. And I really do get a chuckle out how the Okies and South of there, grill their steaks over wood and call it good. Hekk, I have tasted better hot dogs burnt over green popple branches..

Never saw celery in Jello? You havent gone to church far enough North.... Lol....

My goodness, that was even standard in Kansas. Celery is for holding peanut butter, not for Jello.

Or cheese-whiz...yuck

Rod - did you get the salsa made? It rained all day here and I couldn't get the grill fired up to do the tomatoes and peppers.

I've been gone from Kansas so long that I had forgotten this. Consequently, in the interest of fairness, there is a great division in my house. My wife adulterates her chili with beans. She actually expects me to eat it without a look of utter astonishment painting my visage. When I make the chili, I do my utmost not to notice the tears streaming down her cheeks. I know she is grateful she didn't have to cook that evening. Being the thrifty girl she is, she doesn't ask for a second helping, knowing that I'll enjoy it.

Cheez whiz - ISH'TA!!!!! Cant do it, wifey & kids love it... Bleeeech!

Joel, did the chili thing and wherre I am sitting is very warm too.....

   Rod - hope you didn't have to sleep on the couch last night!!

That is one of the reasons I save my chili for the second or third day of deer hunting....we can play Shemeer without running each other out of the cabin and there may be deer that get shot opening morning!! It can be a nice benefit if it is a really cold morning though...

Schmear - theres a game I havent heard of in years... Been in MI too long where their call it Uker and have no clue as to what a Jick is.....

My dad would not eat pizza because he said it was too spicy , and yet he would eat lye-soaked fish that stunk the house up for 3 days  .

You're treading on sacred ground, Ackley... :) Through the generations of my family lutefisk has stuck around. Myself, my dad and my grandpa are the only ones who will touch it, but we eat enough for everybody.

However, although I consider myself a dedicated Lutheran, I still haven't developed the taste for lime Jell-o. Uffda.

 My dad and siblings were the first generation born in the US from Swedish immigrants, so I was exposed to every crazy food they thought was good . Some I like, others such as your beloved lutefisk will never be cooked or served in my house. My father-in-law used to unbuckle his pants before sitting down to his lutefisk at Christmas dinner . I'll take the jello...I think it jiggles less!!

Me two..... Minus the danged celery... LOL!!!

Hegland, during the "season" there are 1/2 dz big Lutefisk dinners here, I can post the dates for ya.... Myself, grew up around it. Never touched it myself, went straight for the Lefse!! Why eat anything else when Lefse is available?

On a side note, have any of you scandihoovians ever hear a person from say Oklahoma try tell an Ole & Sven joke? And they start it out with "did you hear the one about O-lay & Seven"?... And I end up bursting out laughing my arse of right at that point....

Yah, you betcha, eh!
