Crimp Question

Indeed, you should be excited about those loads; they are very fine loads.

Great shooting Vince. Glad you got it squared away.. It is always pretty danged awesome to get a load/rifle shooting. It is one of the things that keeps me coming back!

After two shots I thought I had missed one shot, or something, and was getting rattled. After three shots I really was excited and couldn't control myself.
I then shot three rounds of the Nosler with a lighter powder charge. Then the three that gave me the 0.891 group. It mirrored the previous load, just tighter. After that I confirmed that the 117 Grain Hornady bullet wasn't suitable for my gun. 1/5 rounds off an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper and the rest scattered like a shotgun. If I can shoot groups as small as the two I mentioned I'm inclined to believe it's the load and not the shooter.
I'm going to play with both of these loads, a little, but for all purposes I've found my coyote, antelope, mountain lion, and deer loads.

Vince, I think that's what I like about the .25-06, it handles everything up to and including deer, extremely well, with low recoil, great accuracy, flat trajectory and excellent results on game.

Push comes to shove, I think there's a few folks here who would confess to using it on black bear and elk too...

Again - great shooting and darned good load work.

Vince, glad you were able to get it sorted out and have some good loads.

I am really looking forward to working with my 25-06. Hoping to get a good load with the 115 BT and the 115 PT.

It seems that my 1:10 twist barrel prefers the mid-weight bullets.
I was talking with a guy at the range that has a lot of reloading expirience and everytime I've seen him he's been chronographing loads. He suggested the 100 Grain Ballistic Tip after seeing the two groups. He also suggested I seat the bullet 0.005" deeper and see what it does for me. He seemed to think that would tighten the 0.8 something group up a little.
On my way in to the reloading room now to load a few to shoot in the morning.

My .257 Roberts is 1:10 inch twist and stablilises the 110 AccuBond Nosler bullet just fine at 3060 fps with Nosler custom factory ammo. To date, I have not been able to get the accuracy that I want with this factory loaded bullet but that may have been a bedding issue with this particular rifle.

For hunting, I have been using the 100 gr Partition and IMR 4350 (45.0 grains) and a BR2 primer for 30 years and couple rifles. This load has killed half a dozen mule deer for me with one shot kills and has muzzle velocity at about the same fps (3000+) as the 110 BT. Either bullet would do the job on deer just fine.

Just some fodder for thought on the .257 and killing power for deer.
