Do I need a 243/6mm or 6.5mm?

I think you guys contradict each other on purpose! If only to give me more options

I think it comes from us dreaming of doing the same thing SE.. Really, every single one of the cartridges you mentioned were top shelf. It is like asking what your favor flavor of ice cream is!

The 6.5x284 is really cool as well. I figure if it's a long action, I like LA cartridges. Again, it is just a mind gap I jump through. I do really enjoy the 6.5's though. The smaller ones (smaller than 264 Win Mag's) are really pretty sweet cartridges. Very good ballistics and easy on the shooter.

But you have to like our logic. We all are pushing towards a 6.5 which ever casing you choose to use is up to you. I still like the 6.5-06 which can duplicate the 6.5-284 but with throat erosion.

Scotty, if it were a short action i wouldnt be asking what i should do. Hands down, it would be the 6.5-47 lapua!

Take a look at the 6.5 Swede SE. Lapua makes brass and it is usually their least expensive brass across the board. Something to think about since it is nice to have great brass available for a great rifle. Plus, a long action Swede would give you alot of horsepower..

Good points all, Steve.

While trying to compare the 6.5 swede and 6.5-06 i made an amazing discovery! The 6.5 gibbs! I think i'm in love!

The Gibbs is sweet but you will have additional costs and time fireforming the whole 9 yards. I want to say the 6.5-280AI has about the same case capacity as the Gibbs.

I have run the data on the 6.5 Swede a bunch of times and everytime I am very impressed with that cartridge. One of the fellows just did an NRA gunsmith class and built a 6.5 Swede Ackley Improved. Really neat round, but again, the fireforming part of it is a pain for me. Same would go for the 6.5 Gibb's.

Talk to RidgeRunner about the Gibb's. He has one and has some great thoughts on his. It is ultra accurate and shoots really well.

Either way, you can't go wrong, they are all awesome cartridges.

The Gibbs cartridges are interesting, to be sure. The older I get, the less I enjoy fiddling to fireform or take extra steps to prep brass. Still, it is a fine cartridge.

Yep, his LSS 280 Rem is the best gun he has ;)

It is a good one, but I don't say that publicly very often.

As Col. Whelen stated, "Only accurate rifles are interesting." Your Remington is accurate so therefore I find it interesting.

Maybe you should get Fotis' specs for that hand howitzer he had made up and neck that thing down?
