Double grouping????

My stainless/synthetic 300wby would not group with the original tupperware stock. It double grouped and had large vertical strings. I restocked mine with an Accumark/B &C Medalist and bedded it. Instantly I had sub 1" groups, this is a rifle I was going to sell because 2-3" groups were normal and some went as bad as 6" vertical @ 100yds.

What load, brass, ect are you using in your .340?
I know from your past posts the .340 is well within
your recoil tolerance level.
And though I consider the recoil modest it did take me some time
to get comfortable. If none of the other obvious reasons
stated earlier are your problem I again say let someone else have at it.
Maybe the stock fit isn't just right for you. Can't wait to see those
sub MOA Fotis groups with the .340 ! Makes me want to chip my other tooth.

Just delt with an issue similar to this on my 270. Shifting groups and inconsistent grouping. Found out the leupild ring and base set was causing this. I switched to Talley one piece ring and base and problem solved. This is the 3 rd problem I have had with leupold ring sets. Will no longer be using them on any rifle

I have the dual dovetails on her. I will change scopes for now and we will see

Nope no issues with heat at all. I was very careful with that.

I do have a compact Leupy 3x9 I can try and I will send the the 2.5x8 leupy in for a check-up and possible surgery!

What a PITA. At least you know that Leupold will repair it if there is a problem.

Before I changed scopes I'd try one more thing; Move 4 clicks verticle then back 4 clicks, then tap the windage turret a few times. Sometimes even the best scopes get hung up and need a little persuasion to settle in. Most all the Leupolds I've owned have done that a time or two over the years.

Just talked to WBY. I asked about the torque on the synthetic stock screws. They said no more than 35 inch lbs. I think I was well over that. I read somewhere that it was way more than that.

Will attempt again.

NOPE just a synthetic one. He said touching on both sides of the barrel is natural to those setups.

55 in lbs on my Accumark I imagine 35in lbs will be
what your looking at same as wood.

YUP I think I had mine set to 55! My 257 mag Fibermark is set at 55 as is my 30-378 Bee.

Screws for wood stocks have a torque specification of 35 inch pounds. Please note, however, that you should tighten the rear screw first and then the front screw.
If yours is a Fibermark® or an Accumark® stock, the torque specification is 55 inch pounds.
The correct assembly procedure is:
Tighten the rear trigger guard screw first to 30 inch pounds.
Align the barrel to the center of the barrel channel in the fore stock.
Tighten the front trigger guard screw to 30 inch pounds.
Tighten the rear screw to 50-55 inch pounds.
Finally, tighten the front trigger guard screw to 50-55 inch pounds.
Applying this method, using a torque screwdriver of the proper size, will insure the proper fit between the receiver, and custom aluminum bedding block, as well as the proper positioning of the barrel in the barrel channel.

Can not say that scope torque that I know of has caused an issue Of double grouping this but I am also not much of a fan of Leupold Rings! Firm believer of blue thread locker on everything minus ring screws !

Fotis if the stock is the Black plastic $35 Tupperware that Wby used I would be looking at putting a new stock on it. Had one on my S1 Vanguard 300Wby and every shooting session was an adventure. It now wears a B&C Medalist and I've had zero issues with it.
