I built a 338x06 Ackley this last year and would like the hear your favorite white tail loads for either the standard or Ackley versions.

I don't have a 338 - 06 but my .338 Win Mag seems to love the Barnes 210 grain TSX BT pushed by a stout charge of IMR 4350.

I would look at the RL17, RL15 and similar burn rates with the 200-225's. I'm betting RL15 with a 210 or any 200 would be a good one. Not sure which bullet your wanting to use but for deer I would think any good 200 would be fine. Good luck, if you give us some specs on barrel length and what bullets you like we could run some numbers.

You need to talk to nvbroncrider (Jake); he has the same cartridge. He has produced some fine loads with his rifle.

Don't overlook the 185 gr TTSX pushed north of 3k by RL15! That's enough for anything in NA, but great for whitetails too!

I blew through a big doe w/ a 180 NBT & RL15. They're great whitetail bullets if you can find em.

For "all around" use I settled on the 200 gr Combined Tech Ballistic Silvertip (a 200 gr NBT w/ harmless coating) which has a fantastic BC & very stout construction. Pushed by Varget, RL-15, or Big Game you'll be good to go anywhere you go.

Mine liked IMR-4350 & Hunter w/ 225s & heavier.

PM me your email if you'd like Ramshot load data for the standard A-Square which'll give ya starting points in AI.

Sweet cartridge; lotsa options, none of which are wrong!

What about a 160 Barnes? I'm thinking about this for deer in my 338WM.

With bullets from 160 to 300gr, is the 338 calibre the most versatile there is? Too much gun for varminting perhaps, but not too much or too little for just about anything else...

I'd run that 160 Barnes or a 180 AB. Either of those would probably work just fine on all but the largest animals.

Your right, not too much to not like about a 338 Win Mag.

i'm still waiting on my 338-06ai so will be following this closely:

in a previous message I had some info on H414 as well as RL-15 being two powders that others had success with

I see bass pro occasionally has RL-15 flowing through their website

If you can get RL15 get five lbs. it'll work well in your 338-06 Tim. It's an awesome powder in the Whelens and 338-06's.

There are pretty few cartridges RL15 DOESN'T do well in!

I call it "magic pixie dust"!

Let's see... I've had 223s, 6-250, 243, 257 Bob, 257 AI, 257 Weatherby, 7-08, 7x57, 280 AI, 30-30, 30-06, and 338-06. The only two in which RL15 was not an absolute STAR in were the Bee & the 280 AI.

Ya just can't go wrong widdit!

If it interests anyone, the 185 and 210 ttsx have the same ogive and boat tail profile. Only difference is the length of the shank. Also, the 200 nbt and 225 AccuBond are very similar.

I, personally, don't trust manufacturer's published b.c. values. I would bet money there isn't nearly the difference between the 200 and 225 noslers that the published numbers indicate. And as tough as the 200 nbt is, that would be my first or second pick for a 338-06- depending on how accurate it was with that bullet and/or the 185 ttsx. I haven't seen any 180 accubonds first hand, but that's another one I'd be interested in trying.

I really like the 200 grain AB's in my 338 Win Mag. They are very accurate and I bet they are really just as tough as the 210 PT's as well.

Eric, your right man, RL15 is the stuff for me in alot of cartridges..
