Jack O' Conners load ( will be over in modern references)
Less preasure more velocity.
52grs of 4064 and either a 165gr SST/ or Ballistic Tip will net you about 2900fps from 24" barrels. Kills like crazy any game up to 400lbs. Simply change to a tougher bullet and its perfectly capable on Moose and Elk ...... If you do your part. Used it now for 37 years same load all over the world,
It just works!

A 165 gr Ballistic Tip at 2900 fps is very capable on a wide variety of game, including elk.

Had I been after Big Trophy Bull Elk, I'd have likely switched to the 165 Partition or AccuBond.

Exactly Guy,
I have shot some 6X6 Bull Elk with that loading, using the Partition bullets, And also 1000lb Bull Moose. The Partition works nicely on a high shoulder shot. I never tryed an AccuBond but I bet it could be a great bullet on larger stuff.
I used alot of 200gr PT and some 220s, because of Grizzlys in camp always after meat we had hanging, so have more experence with them in Alaska.
But when we were hunting Rocky Mt States I liked the nice flat trajectory of the 165! Shot a 6X Bull in the Scapegoat Wilderness area outside of Lincoln, Mt. Right after the fire went thru there, only shot we had was him laying down in thick stuff at 340yds, just his neck open from branches.
Was with Mike Barthlemess of Pine Hills Outfitters.(one heck of a Woodsman) We took the shot with JOCs load and he never wiggled.( 165 Solid base pre Balistic Tip)

I like 52gr IMR4064/150, 58gr IMR or H4350/165, 60gr R22/200NP and 50.5gr IMR 4250/240 Woodleigh

Sound like solid prairie dog and woodchuck loads...

Is that an echo from the mashburn man from the wilds of old virginny??? Gosh everyone knows an 06 is only good
For small woodchucks, a big one will get away from ya!
You gotta have a 12lb gun with a 26" barrel with the word
"Magnum" on the barrel for them! Lol

150 grain AccuBond
59 grains H4350
3000fps 22" barrel savage
210 primer
oal at 3.265

How is the Accuracy?

Has never shot bigger than .7 moa 3 shots at 200 yards. Most groups are in the .6's

This barrel is a bit faster than a couple of others we have tested the load in. Have seen it at 2950 in a 22" barrel and at 2985 in another but the accuracy was there in all 3.

Pressure may be up in the 63K range but Norma brass has held up good. Someone with QL could run and give you better look as to pressures but I've not had any hot weather issues with it. And will shoot the 150BT to the exact same poi.

I think my Savage likes it too!

That would be the Nosler 125 and a case full of IMR 4831! I loaded this for a friends rifle in Yakima, WA. We were shooting coyotes with it when we made a pass in town at a fruit orchard. My friend had permission to shoot the rock chucks ( wood chuck, same same) He was used to shooting them with a .22, so when we saw one out around 200yds I told him to shoot him. He said "with a 30-06"? I said, yeah, you ain't gonna eat him are you? ha He laid down prone and popped him good. We then proceeded to watch a huge rock pile about a 120 yds away. We ended up shooting 7 off of it in 30 minutes. We walked up to check on them and they were all "opened up like suitcases"! Looked like a battlefield! ha Awesome round...
