Final Workup Before Moose

I hope you got lots of freezer space ain't no moose going to get away from those loads. I feel for you on the warm weather Mike makes hunting a challenge for sure when it is warm. I was wondering though why you use the 140 AB as a moose load in your 280 and not a 160AB? I have never given much thought to the 140 for animals that large with my 280 and used a 175 last season on my cow elk perhaps I might need to rethink my strategy.

Hope you get a big one that dies on dry ground close to the truck

I forgot about that bullet test you did. Man, I have a bunch of them too.. Those and the 220 Speers. Might have to break out the 358 Win this Fall for some deer hunting.

I have found 140 grain bullets, especially a premium bullet such as either the AB, the E-Tip or the GMX, is more than sufficient for moose and elk. I used the 130 grain E-Tip in my 270WSM to take two elk and two moose so far. The bullet on one moose penetrated almost three foot of moose and was lost somewhere in the rumen. The bullet on a second moose penetrated side to side, punching through the hide on the off side. On one elk, the bullet cleaning passed through, leaving massive devastation. On the other elk, I did recover a bullet piled up under the hide on the off side. The bullets from this WSM are only slightly faster (~ 70 fps) than the GMX launched from the .280 Remington.
