September is turning out great. Took a doe antelope last weekend SE of Mountainair, NM. Best shot of my life. I have never shot at moving game, but it was clear this weekend that my only opportunity would be a shot to 225 yds at an antelope running 25 mph. The 160 gr AccuBond out of the 7MM STW headed out at 3,350 fps powered by 80.5 grains of H1000 to take a beautiful, healthy animal.

Then, I got home to receive two boxes of Nosler custom brass that was on back order! Time to reload and head off to Utah in November for another antelope and December to Vermejo Park, NM for elk and bison.

Pics of the NM terrain that was the setting for the hunt can be found at:

That was a heck of a shot! How much did you lead it? Was it going sideways or running away?

We hiked in and the antelope noticed us before we noticed them. I tried my whistle, but there had been enough shooting that morning [some a__hole shot fifteen times at ONE antelope on the adjacent ranch just prior] that they had lost their curiosity. They circled us and I took a broadside running shot.

I lead her by what I thought was about 2 feet with my scope on 12X [we had scoped a group of what turned out to be six bucks at 300 yds shortly before]. I shot slightly behind the "perfect" shot, but it had the desired effect--dead animal with limited suffering and no meat loss. Accubonds rule.

I have the tenderloins and back straps cryovaced and the wife and I made chorizo out of one half of the front and rear quarters yesterday. Still have the neck [stew meat] and bones [with which to make antelope stock] to go as well.

You will note that the lead at 200 yards for a beast going 25 mph is 83.6 inches! At your 225 yard shot the lead would have to be about eight feet and not the two feet that you used!

Also you listed a MV of 3350 fps and the highest velocity at the Nosler site for that bullet is 3080 fps with H1000.

I killed a running Antelope a few year back.
I was using a 7mm STW, with 160gr NAB, at 3375.
She was 125 yards and moving out at a high rate of speed. I had to lead her by about 2 lengths, and I still caught her further back then I wanted to...but she died in her tracks so it still worked out.
