Out 'foxing' last night on my friends farm & took my first vixen with the 110gn AB bullet....unfortunately, no camera with me, so no picture. Anyway 'Charlie' came through a gate some 250 yds off and then disappeared from view.
I hoped the fox would continue to come toward me & so 10 mins later it did. At around 100yds head, neck & shoulders were a plain sight target so I slipped the cocking slide & poooff!

The muzzle flash at 22.00 last night prevented me seeing quarry reaction, so gathering up my bins. I found the fox dead where she'd been standing.
Man, the entry wound was massive! I have the idea, it was both entry & exit wound?
You certainly know when you've been 25-06'ed.
Cheers ET

Congratulations.
I have used the 110 gr AB in a 257 Roberts to take coyotes. It is an impressive killer.

I like this!

Yup, you do certainly know when you've been 25-06'ed.

I may have to steal that saying.

Be my guest Vince, - LOL  ATB ET

Good luck on fox hunting ET, my sister fox hunts on horseback with a Beretta 20 gauge, model 687. I guess to each their own.

Hi OT3, I also use a 20g Beretta for duck & pheasant, though......not from horseback (I can't/don't ride) and never on fox as we don't shoot ground game when shooting birds. It's not safe to do so as there are beaters driving the birds toward the guns. ATB

Good shooting!! The 25-06 will sure get the job done on foxes. It can also cut them in half. Not a big deal if you are not saving the pelts.

Good Hunting!

Thanks Bob. I don't save the pelts, but my friend on whose farm I shot the fox, is sending it to the taxidermist for head & neck mount. I suspect the fox's left chest side & shoulder are too badly damaged to include, so I guess a 'short' mount will be in order. ATB, ET

Quite possibly OT3, we'll see what David decides as he's having it done. Personally, I wouldn't give it the space as there are so many other opportunities to take a better example with a cleaner shot.

With all the birds in place for the forthcoming season shooting duck/pheasant, there'll be more fox and of course other 'raiders' to watch out for on Dave's farm.

ET-That sounds great. I have 2 grey fox pedestal mounts and a full body mount. He might consider a pedestal.

Bob

This is one of mine.

Great pics of excellent mounts Bob. Thanks for sharing.
I shall be back on 'vermin duty' on Saturday night and we shall see if any other foxes appear within my radar....??? :)

Out on fox patrol again last night.....no show! The rain was typically tropical, thunder, lightening & hammering down for hours.
Didn't expect 'Charlie' to show & he didn't disappoint.

Very cool ET! That is some great shooting as well!

I have some coyote/fox hunting to do for a friend this week as well. Hoping to run my son's 243 with the 90 AB on them...

That should work a treat Scotty. It's pretty enjoyable sitting in the evening by a hedge and watching the wildlife doing it's thing. Then the fox appears - the hunting mode kicks in and in a few minutes it's all over.
The .243 with 90gn AB or BT will fly well. I used the 95gn BT for a very long time driven by 44.5gns Vit N160. Now that brought quite a few deer down & many foxes too.

Good hunting. Cheers, ET
