Got my Coyote bait today!

Lol,
Well we will see JD, I have seen it take weeks to get them onto a bait, as you can probably see in the photo, I am trying to draw them over 200 yds from the woods on far side of the lake (about 550yds) and they are extreamely uncomfortable getting that far from the saftey of the woods where around here they live 99% of their lives........
Sometimes younger ones will try it, or if they are absolutely starving and its 25/30 below zero they might come.
Otherwise its a nite time event......
So we will have to see what happens, it was only 5 above here this morning, but nothing came near it last nite.....
I have a Chamberlain Reporter set up to buzz me anytime anything is near the bait...

Doesn't the breeding season start up in a couple weeks? That should make them more active on the ice.

3300 sounds good and I'd bet 3400 with 25 is very possible. How does the accuracy look out of them?

Hope you get to hammer something soon.

Nothing yet............. only 3 above Zero right now before daylight so we will see if old Willey shows up!
E

Jim,
That does start soon and will have them doing some odd things, for sure

Man Earle 3300+ fps that is almost laser speed ! I would sure like to see the look on the face of that first coyote you hit he will have been dead for 30 seconds before he realized it (y) Lol.

Blessings,
Dan

Ha ha,
Well we will see Dan, if we can squeeze 3400 outta it I am going to try, that should give an honest 300 fps over a 243 , so weather it will kill them any better time will tell. I am pleased with the new Weaver Tactacal scope as it seams to track spot on! So for short money I think it will do ever thing I want it to! I also grabed another VX2/3x9x40 with CDS and their new Windplex reticle, for normal hunting and I am VERY pleased with that scope ,and am going to order the custom dail for it from custom shop, you get ONE free dail, so will have it built for that 117gr bullet going 3250, its soposed to be spot on for that loading for one full turn, plus it will Have a" zero stop,"( which the dumbie one doesnt) VX2s , are probably the be best bang for the buck out there! IMHO they are nice optics, but not over priced....
Perfect scope for this flat shooting 700 Remy! (y)

Dang, that sucks about the deer but hopefully you can't count coup on them coyotes soon.

First off I would die if it got that cold in Mississippi lol. But I hope you pop some yotes soon. I'd love to see what damage you get from your loads.

FWIW, some of would die if it ever got as hot and humid where we are as it does in MS! I do confess that my wife would leave in a thrice to join her brother in Biloxi if she thought she could get away with it. Me? I'll take a bit of ice and snow and a few chill winds.

Haha I don't blame you on the heat and humidity it is truly terrible here in July and August. Winters are mild here though sometimes it gets in the teens but mainly 30 to 50 degrees.

But we do have long deer seasons and liberal bag limits haha

What about moose? Mountain goats? Bighorn sheep? Caribou? Just joshing you. Each area has its own charm. And for the record, I did enjoy the Gulf Coast. I have been north for so long, however, that I do enjoy it here. There are a of places that would be hard pressed to vie with MS. Great state and great people.

I will admit Dr. Mike if I could of been born one more place it would be out in the big country! I've only been as far North Dakota up that way. But I absolutely fell in love with the black hills in south Dakota. One day I will get to hunt out there! One day lol. You Northerners are truly blessed with beautiful land and animals up there !

Well living in the North Country has its drawbacks, I live 1 1/2 miles off a paved road so this dirt road has to be plowed every time it snows, just the fuel bill avgs a grand every winter, last yesr it was over$1300. Fuel Oil to heat is way down this winter but is still going to run $1500 even this winter, and my place has 8" insulation in the walls! Power goes out here a lot and we need to run the generator constantly when its 20 below. These are things the real estate folks fail to mention when your looking at a beautiful lakeside cabin............

Well I have not seen one yet, I did however see where one came into within a 100 yds! He came right to a junk of ledge that is sticking up thru the ice where I left a milk jug filled with dyed water (froze solid now) and stoped short and would not come past it, he paced back and forth I am guessing for quite some time, then lost his courage and left........why a milk jug would scare him so bad I really dont know?

Well, of course its just a matter of time, so last nite at 2:10am, we heard from a young coyote, that had a sweet tooth for venision! She died via a 100gr Pro Hunter, that actually hit her in front of left shoulder and exited out the right rear ham. That bullet is probably to hard to get those explosive kills I like.
However hit diagonally like that she never knew what hit her.I dont think the outcome would have been as good had I not made a solid hit. Must try those 90gr thin jacketed Blitzkings! Got a very loud report back off from her, as it hit the body..... just a small last springs pup, but a female so that is potentially 30/40 pups or so, had she lived for 10 years......... she died doing what she loved to do, eating venision!
