Hunting Season Workout

Sounds kinda rough, Bill. Let's see what the surgeon says. We're all pulling for you.

Bill, if there needs to be surgery I hope that it is real quick so that your rehab will be done before hunting season starts.
I know that you are not the type to lay around so I am praying for you Bud.

Blessings,
Dan

G'Day Fella's,

Best wishes with your injury Bill!

I only just found this thread, and thought you blokes may be interested in what I do, to keep fit.
It's nothing complex, mainly just walking and I have just started to get back on my bicycle.
But when I go for a walk, I don't Dilly-Dally! I do around 4 miles per hour and try to maintain this both Up Hill and Down Dale-(a bit easier to do)!!!
This I find, has a very low impact on my body and all my spinal injuries.
The bicycle is more difficult!
Once I start going up steep hills, I start to suffer from lack of real fitness, so I'm still working myself toward being Really Fit!
We all need something to aim for!!!

Hope that helps

Doh!
Homer

That's a brisk pace Homer, my fitness test for my fire work is tied to that same pace. My natural speed is about 3 miles an hour. When I am lazy I enjoy the walk, when training I have to work hard, and carry a pack. I love hiking.

Knee braces on, legs wrapped, boots tied. Doing interval training with 80 pounds in the pack.

I hope everyone is continuing to get ready for hunting season.
I'm plugging along. Had to drop the weight in my pack as an old knee injury is inflamed at the moment. Took a week off to rest it and dropped some of the weight.
Hang in there folks and keep plugging along.

Vince, I hope that knee stops giving you grief. I am 6 weeks away from being able to start lifting again. I have continued my Cardio 5 days per week and it is going well other than I am bored silly without the weights.
I too hope that everyone is continuing the training..

Blessings,
Dan

Dan,

Thank you but my left knee is my nemesis until I die most likely.
I did a partial tear of my ACL years ago. While I may have to resort to surgical intervention one day I'm putting it off as long as possible. I also have osteoarthritis in both knees so I'm dealing with that and the exercise helps that. I'll just keep plugging along. There's a few other knee issues due to over use and injuries, like I dislocated the right knee back when I was riding bulls, but I just keep on keeping on. :)
I used to tell folks that I felt like I was fifty when I was in my early twenties. Now I'm fifty and I don't dare say what age I feel. :)
Oh well, enough of the sob story. Time for me to suck it up and git 'er done. :D

Vince I am glad to hear that you are still giving ER, that Rodeo stuff is hard on the body my nephew is still running the roping circuit in ND, SD & Montana he is 30 now and he is almost always limping for a few days after each ride . But it is hard to give up a sport you love. All any of us can do is the best on that particular day (y)!!

Blessings,
Dan

Am on the slow march back, again.

Monday the surgeon hooked me up with a pretty fancy piece of titanium to hold my neck together. Seems he hooked three vertebrate together. I'm not anticipating a lot of neck motion after this, but who knows?

First couple of days were a tad painful, but that's subsided considerably. Did a 3-mile walk a couple of days ago. Went for broke this morning and walked the local "loop trail" along the Columbia River. Depending... it's around 10 - 11 miles. I walked it in 3 hours, just fine. Feeling pretty good. Hard part is going to be staying OFF the bike and OUT of the weight room for a few weeks, to give this a chance to heal up. Should pay big dividends over the long run. I'd been losing LOTS of strength in my right arm & chest due to the nerve being badly pinched. Now that strength will HOPEFULLY come back. We will see.

Guy

You should be able to recoup essentially all the strength, Guy. Sounds like a good walk, though.

Guy, it will take some time but I know that you will keep after it, and will recover. Did the Dr. give you any long term weight restrictions? After my wife's back surgery she ended up with a life long weight limitation. Don't overdo and push to hard but don't stop either.

Yesterday : Hit the treadmill
Today : Squats to work my Quads
Tonight : Can't sleep

Woo Hoo! Another 10-mile hike around the "loop trail" this morning. Down to 2 hours, 45 minutes! :)

Feeling strong. At least for hiking. Still forbidden to lift anything over 10 pounds per arm, or to shoot my rifles. Phooey. Getting better though. Surgery was two weeks ago today.

Guy

10 miles?
You too healthy. Have a smoke. :)
