Hunting Season Workout

Vince - the fellow who invented the bow flex lives here in town, in a rather impressive custom home on the hill... Must pay well. (y)

Good luck with the new machine and the sore muscles! My oldest son has been nursing a nasty black & blue quadraceps after he injured it doing leg press two weeks ago... Don't do whatever it was that he did!

Doc said I'm healing up real well. Was impressed that at nearly 60 years old, I'm still hanging in there with a resting pulse of 55. He cleared me for more activity, including riding 2-wheeled machines! He did caution me "don't fall."

Yesterday I put 15 miles on the bicycle. I'd stayed in fair shape with a lot of walking over the past two months, but the first ride woke up some leg muscles that hadn't done a lot for the past eight weeks...

Am also cleared for some weight training - keeping it mild for now - but not yet for rifle shooting. He's optimistic about my planned elk, bear and deer hunts this fall though. I've got all summer to keep working towards the required fitness level.

Guy,

Outstanding!
Keep on keeping on. Like you I've awoken some muscles that have been reading too long. I'll echo your physician's statement, DON'T FALL!

Well last week I went to see my doctor for my 6 month check-up post bypass. He was impressed with my progress as my A1C was 7.0 which is in the normal range. I have been able to knock off a few units of my fast acting insulin over the last month.
The only 2 things that I was disappointed with was he told my that the blood circulation to my legs will likely not get any better . Since the surgery my legs ache when I first get up but after 10 steps or so they are fine. And the other thing is the 22 pounds that I have gained since the day before my surgery. He advised that some of it is fluid so I am still on a diuretic, 1/2 a pill every second day. He stated don't worry to much and take it slow as I am in good physical shape. My resting heart rate is 66, oxygen level is 97% and my BP was 116 over 55. I have started back on the weights as of May7th and everything there is coming along well other than the strength in my pecs as they are taking longer to recover after a workout.
My wife says that I should not complain as I am still walking on the right side of the grass ! It is funny how they are right most of the time even though I would never say that in front of her !
PS. Guy I am happy to hear that your recovery on the shoulder is coming along well!!

Blessings,
Dan

Dan,

Thank you for the update.
I'm on an insulin pump and have been a diabetic for 43 years. Like you I have compromised circulation in the lower extremities.
All we can do is just keep on keeping on. If you haven't already I'd find an endocrinologist to manage your diabetes. With a little work you could have your a1C down to 6.5 and the benefits will be numerous.
You can't eliminate the complications of diabetes but you can forestall them.

Dan, glad to learn that you're doing well. Actually had surgery for my neck/spine this time. The shoulder was several years ago. I'm just getting patched up all over the place...

I hope to be able to use both my .25-06 and .30-06 this year. Not going to try to push for using the .300 WSM or the .375 rifle. Too much of a good thing for the newly healed neck!

Best of luck to all of you guys who are coming back from injuries, old & new.

Regards, Guy

Sorry Guy, I am glad you are recuperating well. From your post I know that you enjoy your workouts slow and steady will get you good results (y).

Blessings,
Dan

Just hit the Bowflex for legs, arms, chest, and shoulders.
Going to sleep good tonight. :)
It's nice to be working my right shoulder again. I could feel the snap, crackle, pop from a bullriding wreck in 1992.

Vince, I am not sure that knowing the dates when your aches & pains originated is a good thing !! I sure hope that there are only a few dates to remember but I doubt it. From watching rodeo for many years I never could quite understand taking on a 2000lb animal with just a set of spurs and your cowboy hat ! You know that I am kidding you!!

Blessings,
Dan

Yeah, I've had a few wrecks. :)
I remember that one due to the nine months off and rehab.

Doing my Bowflex workout late today as I worked all day.
Still getting used to it but so far I'm liking it. Seeing changes already and getting stronger. :)

Hmm. First weight workout at the gym today in about 2.5 months, since before the surgery.

I've got a long, long road back towards "full strength."

Good! A challenge!

Guy, you are well on your way to recovery .
I know you have heard this many times before but slow & easy Bud!!

Blessings,
Dan

Hit is as hard as you can, I will need lots of help, carrying out my elk (y) (y) (y)

Guy, stick with it.
I'm beginning my two a day workouts now that my moose hunt is getting closer.

Went for my shoulder surgery checkup yesterday. Dr. say's "no" bow hunting this year, no heavy lifting for another couple of months and to not over extend arm while doing anything. We did not talk about rifles but I am going to try some small caliber stuff soon. Moving along fine and little pain in my right shoulder. Been hiking several times a week will step that up as time draws near. I am on call for fire work, which always takes away from my training, there are not enough hours in the day.

Well I am still at the Gym 5 days per week. I know that I am getting stronger as weights are going up except on the chest workout. I am still have a little tenderness in my left pec  and the weight is still hanging on.
Found out a few things about the two insulins I am taking, hard to lose weight when taking them .
But it will come as I am not about to throw in the towel yet .

Less than a month and I should be on my way to DC !

Blessings,
Dan

Diabetes is a dreadful disease.
I've had it for 43 years. I am constantly at war with it.
Stick with the workouts. You will be better for it.
I must've missed something amigo as I thought you were going to BC? Why are you going to Sodom on the Potomac?
