Hunting Season Workout

Guy, I am glad to hear you are well onto the road of recovery!! It is hard to keep a good man down.
I am supposed to go this coming Wednesday for my ex rays and my 6 month check up. I am doing about approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours of Cardio 5 days per week with walking, riding the recumbent and the stationary bike. I have implemented some dumbbell weight training for my arms but real light stuff 8). Still struggling with eating clean as when I finish my workout I could eat until I go to bed which is not a good thing.
I hope everyone is now able to get outside for the occasional walk as I believe winter is just about over here  well except it was -6C today.

Blessings,
Dan

You guys are a couple of motivated individuals. I better jump on this bandwagon as well. My job has shifted to spending a lot more time in the office over the last few years. That in combination with having three kids under the age of 5 has taken about a 30lb toll. It became very evident last year when I was in Idaho hunting around 8,000', something needs to change. It hasn't yet, but no time like the present I guess.

Few things I have read here that will help me...

1.) No beer or hard alcohol during the week. Limit myself to one glass of wine with the wife during the week.
2.) Making an effort to eat better. I think about eating better all the time, I just need to do it.
3.) My work computer now has a picture of the mountain I want to hunt next fall as the background.
4.) Drinking a lot more water!
5.) Shutting the dang TV off after the kids are in bed and hitting the treadmill three nights a week. I think this will help me unwind from work better as well. I really miss being in shape and need to get better. I used to be able to hike with the best o them, I want to get back there.

Plus if I'm walking around at 235 now, and drop down to 205-210 that should mean I can pack more right!??

I'm going to use this to help keep me accountable. I'll post results.

Thanks for the motivation!

Git going Cupcake and git ' er done.

Jmad,

How's your physical fitness program working for you?

10 miles again yesterday. Going for another 3-5 mile walk later this morning. with the dog.

Even after I'm cleared for the bicycle, I intend on keeping up these walks, a couple a week. Why not? The dog and I are really enjoying!

Did well on the drinking and eating part, and the motivational part is picking up steam! Got the tread mill cleaned off and ready to roll tonight.

Thinking that I might have better luck getting up in the morning and working out than I do in the evening but we'll see. As soon as my garage is built I will have a great work out spot that won't wake the wife or kids! Until then, treadmill it is.

As my Pops would say, "OK now. Time to work."

Hang in there and git 'er done. :D

I have always done my workouts in the mornings, I find that if I don't start with a workout, other priorities get in the way as the day goes by. My activities have been greatly reduced since my shoulder surgery but I managed to get in 5.5 miles on a nice trail this AM. No weight, but did average 16 mile minutes over the distance. My surgeon has absolutely banned me from weights for 3 more months.

Went to the surgeon yesterday. I am still (and will be for some time) banned from anything that would be perceived as fun. I start therapy next week, my muscles are in fantastic shape (according to the surgeon), I should heal at nearly 100% and I can take the pack test next month. I still have 4 more weeks in the sling, (if I can figure out where I put it) when I got up this morning. I am now looking for a fanny pack so I can add some weight on my PT hikes, and keep weight from my shoulder.

Hang in there Bill and listen to the experts. I wish I had. :)

Started back on the treadmill after taking a couple weeks off to rest and relax. I get to chasing it too much. I guess that's my competitive nature.

I just found a Bowflex at Walmart for $350. I snagged it. Should be here Thursday. It'll help to give me some all around conditioning and help me to focus on certain things with my legs.

Should be here tomorrow.
For a low fee I can change the carbon fiber rods and increase the max weight too.
I don't have the space, or cash, for a good free weight setup.
Got really bored with the treadmill and it seems to be aggravating one of my knees.

I have a earlier model similar to this one, I really like the Bow-flex, if you are used to weights, it feels different, but its fast and compact. As I run through my routine, (when my shoulder was working) I would say start out with crunches using two 20 lb bands, then curls, chest press's, rowing etc. Then up the weights for pull downs, leg raises etc. then end up with the bench press. That made the workout even faster because I was doing two or three exercises with the same weight, not wasting time changing weights on every exercise. In 30 min one can get a great workout, the bands take a little time to get used to be the convenience is great.

That's what I'd heard Bill and wanted one for a long time to just keep things conditioned. I'm looking forward to using it.

Well today the Bowflex got delivered.
Wrestling the 150 pound box in the house gave me my daily workout. Not so much the weight as the awkwardness of the box. I'll set it up this weekend and be ready to rock!

Got the Bowflex put together in about an hour and a half.
Not too shabby. The only thing left is to tighten everything up and hook up the cables.
Took a friend of mine three days and the assistance of family members. I'm happy I got it done myself. :)
