I had a self-climbing stand slip off my feet 25' up and was left holding onto the climber handle.
That was a hard slide to the ground wearing only a camo Tee shirt many years ago. Not a lot of fun, I fixed the straps so they couldn't accidently slip off my boots.
Lesson learned the hard way.

Bought a Baker climbing stand years ago and it didn't take long for me to figure out that wasn't for me. No injuries but did not like the setup.

The Baker's though well-built and stable once set up could come off your feet until you modified the straps that held it on your feet
I still have mine but haven't used it forever.

That is funny, imagine getting a rash sliding down that tree. I never had a climbing stand. You never know when accidents can happen.
I knew a guy that I did not frequent very much with over a period of 20 years, he sent me a text with a picture of a 10 foot bowhunting tripod he built but I was not impressed with it when he sent me a picture of it to my phone. He wanted to sell it for 50 bucks because he needed some money, so i said bring it over to my house and set it up in my front yard, if I like it, I'll buy it. Once he set it up and I still was not impressed. I mentioned to him that it does not look stable to me because the legs were not spread apart enough to be stable. He gave me a angry look and said " I built this damn thing and used it many times at the deer lease when I went bow huntin' " This feller weighed north of 320 lbs. and said "I'll climb dis thing and I betcha I can dance on it and it won't topple". I just smiled and I watched when he climbed that ladder and once he got to the top and sat down hard on the seat and said " See, with his hands out in the air". I noticed that one of the legs was sinking into the soft ground, and you know what happened next.
I still declined to buy that stand and boy he was so mad when I declined the offer to buy it, watched him take it apart and throw the pieces in the back of his truck and just before he got in his truck about to storm off. Out of courtesy, I pulled 50 bucks out of my wallet to loan it to him, said he was gonna pay me back soon. He took the money but I still did not want that tripod anyway. Never heard from him again. What a guy.
