I have an opportunity to pick one up for a good price. I' m thinkiing about my 28 Nosler build. It' a 1 in 8 twist # 4 taper. Don't know much about Lilja, polyagonal 3 grooves. What do you all know?

If I remember right but don't quote me, it's suppose to cause less stress on the bullet and be easier to clean I think but not sure.

Great barrels that are used by benchrest and other competitive shooters. Should be an excellent barrel for a hunting rifle in the 28 Nosler caliber. The 8 twist will help in spinning the heavier bullets.

Joel nailed that one. Haven't ever heard anyone really complain about a Lilja. Amongst the top of the heap.

What's the fastest you can get for the .284 barrels?

Polygonal rifling was invented by Whitworth in the 1850's and was first used in cannons and latter used in Whitworth rifles used by the CSA in the Civil War.
Now primarily used in pistol barrels it is also used in some top end sniper rifles.
Polygonal barrels tend to fowl less with copper and lead have a better gas seal due to a smaller bore diameter and slight increased muzzle velocity with a tendency to be more accurate per according to some publications.
Whitworth sniper rifles were greatly valued during the Civil War for their accuracy.

If it really is polygonal than you should be ok. What bullet ate you wanting to shoot that requires a 1 in 8 twist?

I have a 3-groove pacnor ss supermatch on my 257 ackley. It shoots great, and easy to clean! Shoots 110gr Nosler AB's at 3450fps

Thanks for the replies guys. I thought the 8 twist would have been great for shooting the heavies. I want use the 175 to 195s. Unfortunately the barrel profile he has are a little light for what I'm needing. I' going to thread this one for a brake and my suppressor. I need some shoulder at the threads to lock up that suppressor.
Thanks again,
Scott

There are a few other barrels in #5's and heavier in stock at places like http://www.thirdgenerationshootingsupply.com, http://www.bugholes.com, http://www.butchsreloading.com, and http://www.grizzly.com.

I personally will not use another Lilja after having a couple bad ones from him and seeing one he sent to my friend (At the time between my friend and I we had used probably 20+ barrels from Lilja and had his 5+ barrel discount for a few years). The bore was out of center .030+" and when my friend call about it Dan's response was...."It's in spec's or we won't send it out". This was probably 8-10 years ago and the same friend chambered a gun for a buddy of his in the last couple months using a Lilja. Low and behold the bore was off .030+" on this barrel too. I'm not sure how Lilja contours his barrels but most do it on centers in a CNC's now. To me it would be awful hard to get the bore off .030" while turning on centers. IMO There are too many good barrel companies to buy from where you don't have to deal with crappy product and attitude. You also don't see Lilja barrels used much anymore on the benchrest scene so that would tell me their barrels aren't nearly as competitive as they use to be.
