Load for 338-06 200 BT 225gr and 250gr.

dislaimer These loads work fine in MY rifle whose chamber was cut with a long throat in case anyone ever decided to shoot factory Weatherby ammo in it. These loads may be unsafe in any other rifle. Verify all load data in current reloading manuals.
I have had good luck with both IMR 4064 and IMR 4350 under the 200 grain Ballistic Tip. I have settled on 61 1/2 grains of IMR 4350 which gives me good groups as well as good velocity - ~2800 fps out of a 24" barrel.
The 225 grain AccuBond clocks in at ~ 2740 fps when seated over 62 grains of H-4350 I find in my rifle the accuracy is not as good with what I can achieve with the lighter 200 grain Balistic Tip. (Nosler has to make a 200 gr AB just for us 338-06 owners!

I have not tried any 250 grain bullets from Nosler but I have a great heavy animal load using some original 250 grain Trophy Bonded Bear Claws. 54 grains of Winchester W760 sends these long slugs over the chrono at ~ 2450 fps 10' in front of the muzzle.

Welcome to the .338-06 club! I built mine several years & several dozen animals ago. I love this round for general NA hunting & it's performed wonderfully in Africa for me too. The 210grNP seems just about made for this round. You can push it along @ 2750fps w/o bending anything & it kills very well out to 300-350yds. I have taken lgame from ittle Duiker to elk & Zebra w/ this load. Only recovered one bullet & it is a perfect mushroom weighing 168gr.
IMR4064, RL15 & IMR4320 have been very good perfomers w/ the 200&210gr bullets. Mine will not shoot any 225gr bullet worth a crap, so I stay w/ 210grNP & 250gr anything. H4350 & RL19 are very good under 250gr. I recently tried H4350 under the 210grNP & accuracy was just amazing, under 1/2" and this is from a very finicky rifle. I only use the 250gr when hunting heavy cover where shots are under 200yds. The 210grNP just flat works on everything.
Start w/ 52.5gr of IMR4064 or RL15 & work up to 54gr under a 210grNP. Should be good for 2700fps+. Start @ 58.5gr H4350 & work up to 61gr under the same bullet. For the 250gr, start w/ 56.5gr of H4350 & work up to 58.5gr. For RL19, start w/ 57.5gr & work up to 60gr, should get you close to 2500fps. You can make brass from any .30-06 or 35Whelen brass. You can also just buy the brass from Norma all ready to go. Good luck, great choice.
