I have a 30-06 with an overall Magazine Clearance of 3.392. How much clearance should you give so the rounds in the magazine are not deformed or OAL changed during recoil??

I also have a sinclair bullet comparator and the OAL for a 165 grain AccuBond touching the lands measured with the comparator is 3.660 or 2.660 from the case head to lands. Is there anyway to determine the OAL of the bullet without the comparator to make a more exact measurement in regard to magazine clearance other than measuring to the tip. Is there a standard dimension from ogive to tip and where would I find it??

I would try about .025-.030" clearance in the magazine and
see how they feed.

Ogive to tip measurements vary by bullet type and manufacturer. The comparator measurement to lands and magazine length also vary by bullet type/rifle manufacturer. I get my lands measurement, never seating closer than 0.010" to the lands, then check a dummy round in the mag box and check feeding. On most long actions I have not had a constraint problem with the mag box but frequently on short actions will have to use the mag box to determine seating depth. Not reallly a problem. You don't have to be at the lands to have an accurate load. Concentricity of your loaded round can be just as important. All part of the loading process.Rick.
