All you Model 70 experts, I need your advice, What is the proper stock/action screw torque? It's a featherweight, wood stock with factory bedding. Thanks
I think numbers between 25/35 ilbs will be pretty standard.
However here is a quote from " Benchrest" a few years back:
There likely is a recommendation out there but I don't think one size necessarily fits all. Over the years in fooling with a lot of Pre-64 M70s with factory wood stocks I used the standard technique of snugging up the front action screw first, then the rear but leaving the middle about 1/2 to 3/4 turn from snug. Then, it was trial and error with the forend screw to see what the rifle preferred--this varied a lot from rifle to rifle. When I refer to "snugging" up I mean tightening with a standard screwdriver but not overdoing it and compressing the wood, especially at the rear where the bedding area is very small under the tang.
