No Power

Running on generator for 4.5 hrs.
Power company show over 60,000 without power , that’s alot for our area.

We do become dependent upon the electric grid.
Ain't that the truth. We generally lose power during the summer with out summer thunderstorms. I have the electric company on speed dial on my cell phone. They're usually fairly quick at locating the outage and getting the power back on. We've already had a couple this year and no high wind of thunderstorms at the time they occurred. One was about 20 minutes and the other was about an hour and a half, give or take a few minutes.

Going to be a long night for some. Friday night thru this morning we received 2.25” of rain and 1/2” of icing. My sump pump has been cycling all day. I’m lucky to have back up power. And now we are getting some heavy snow.

Listening to the stories I think about all the hurricanes (and one tornado) I've been through over the past 34 years in Florida. In each and every one I lost power usually for 3-4 days till the ancient Florida Power and Light grid was repaired. I have a permanent spot in my garage for our generator as it has saved the day on many occasions. In 2004 we had Hurricane Jean with 140mph winds. Boy did that play tricks with the power grid. 23 days on a generator does not make a happy camper. In the last two years Florida Power and Light gave us underground power which has made all the difference. No overhead wires and through summer storms haven't lost power. (keeping my fingers crossed).

When we built our house, I had a transfer switch wired in for auxiliary power. I have a Yamaha 7200 watt generator and it runs everything, including furnace and air conditioning. We have a couple of upright freezers in the basement. I unplug them and everything else runs.
