I have a quick question on Nosler blems. I have used them quite a lot through the years, sometimes with good results and sometimes not. Now my question: are blems cosmetic only, or can they be structural? Thanks

Only thing I have noticed is a weight variance. For example, an extreme of .5 grains between the heaviest and lightest out of 50 in 25 caliber.

Any structural variance would be purely coincidental as blems are removed from packaging as firsts via visual inspection. If there was any structural defect in a given production lot, the firsts would have the same defect as its impossible to see visually.

Blems, by definition are a visual defect. A stain or a mark that visually differentiates them from the otherwise visually perfect.

Buy them with confidence, I’ve never had any issues with accuracy or performance with Blems/2nds, nor the 1sts for that matter.

I haven’t had an issue with Nosler blems. I have some at home currently in quite a few different configurations. I have some horn ones that were smaller diameter than factory though. I tell you if you buy them just pull a caliper out and check the diameters. To be fair I’ve had non-blems under sized as well. I’m sure if you call Nosler. They’ll tell you why they’re blems… or give you examples of why they’re blems..

Probably 20 years ago I had a Nosler blem, a 30 cal 168 HPBT match bullet come "unwrapped" shortly after exiting the barrel of my 308 Win. The bullet sounded like it was flapping, and then poof, it vanished in a gray burst. I think it was less than 50 yards from me, but that was a long time ago.

I could have prevented that, because I saw a very obvious crease in the bullet jacket running the length of the jacket. I loaded it anyway out of curiosity.

Other than that, all the many Nosler blems/seconds I've shot did just great.

Regards, Guy

Blemishes are on a face. They look different. They are not defective. They would get in trouble for intentionally selling something defective.
As film junkie said. Buy with confidence.

When I first started loading with Accubonds I bought firsts.
Then I found that you could get the blems and that’s all I buy now.
I’ve put firsts and blems together and I can’t tell the difference.

I'm another blem shooter . from what I've seen a lot of the blems are overruns . Nosler could have had an order for an AccuBond with a different color plastic tip , red comes to mind . if Nosler makes too many of these red tip bullets they get sold as blems . another thing I see is , if the special order wants a cannular , and the normal nosler bullet does not have a cannular , the extra bullets from this order get sold as blems . I have complete confidence in these bullets . these blems , and overruns are about all I buy .

Blems are all I buy anymore. Ordered a good supply of the new Whitetail bullets. Hopefully they will drop some of the 45/70 bullets on the market soon.

Yep, I have red tip accubonds, and Partitions and accubonds with cannelures, all overruns.

In last 20 years I have purchased $100’s worth of 2nds / blems. Maybe over $1K of them. Never had a complaint!
I’ve only loaded my 6.5 Norma with Hammer , the rest of all my loads are Nosler. Oh and one box of Hornady for my 45-70.
So it’s 99% Nosler ….

Never had an issue with blems or overruns. Its all I try to buy when it comes to Nosler bullets. It's interesting to see some of the variances like different color tips or cannelures. A batch of 6.5mm 142gr ABLR's I got recently has green tips.
