OK--you guys make wonderfully accurate bullets.....now you make ammo....and you sell your own guns. There is so much hype about loaded ammo and how runnout affects accuracy can you give us your expert opinion.
I realize for the super long range guys (600-1000 yds) it really matters.

What do your tests tell you about runnout and accuracy at say 300 yds?

It's my feelings that loaded ammo under .003" would be considered super ammo......003-.005 might not be discernable from the super ammo. Anything over .005 might start showing effects.

What can you guys tell us from your testing??

My 200 grain AccuBond seconds shot under 1" groups at 300 yards from my Sako 300 RUM. My best was a .695" group at 300 yards see below. So.........2nds can and will shoot!

Yep! 2nds shoot great! 180 BT's from my 30-06 Ackley @ 818 yds from a 26" ss Lilja barrel/Rem 700. Barrel's muzzle diameter is only .542". Vel is 2997 fps.

Runnout was between 4-6 thou.

Runout isn't the bullet itself, is it. It is how straight the bullet is seated in the brass. So I would think that the brass is typically more questionable than the bullet.

Runnout is usually the "total wobble" of the case and bullet in relation to the center of the case. Bullets are usually considered to be almost perfect in roundness but sometimes the bullet gets seated slightly crooked in a straight case.....or....the case itself is slightly off line after sizing or being manuafactured.
Bottom line is there are those that think .005 runnout can cause alot of trouble....and there are those that say it won't.

Was curious if we could get some expert "philosophy" from our friends at Nosler.

BTW----GSSP--awesome group.....that group aside....which is phenominal....does your gun seem to perform really well with that kind of runnout.

To be honest, I have never worried about runout, I just load and lock.
This group was shot with 160 gr AB seconds in my 280 AI.

That's a beautiful rifle - what kind of scope did you pair it with ?

Thanks lrp3006!
