Well as you guys know, I was worried about getting my rem 700 sps 22-250 to shoot. Well I added a timney trigger and hogue overmolded stock(just until my new one comes from richard's). Today I shot 6 different loads in hopes of finding a good one. I was not dissapointed! These are all 5 shot groups at 100 yards. All loads are with 52gr Sierra HPBT, win brass, and cci 200 primer.

First load tested was 38gr. of H414 yielding a group of .348"
2nd Load- 34.5gr of Varget yielding a group of .557"
3rd- 38gr H380 with .938" (worst powder in this rifle)
4th- 34.5gr IMR 4064 with .309" group
5th- 35 gr IMR 4320 with .279" group! (Best load of the day)
6th- 33gr of IMR 3031 with .320" group

Top three powders are IMR 4320, IMR 4064, and IMR 3031. I may not try 3031 again as I have heard it is temp sensitive, but the other two powders are killer! This gun seems not to like Hodgdon powders as much , but still groups good. I may buy a sample of IMR 8208XBR and give it a try too!

This is all just initial testing but I am confident that I can get a load that shoots one hole groups if i do my part.

SE, seems like the work on the Remington really paid off. Hard to tell which is best out of those three really good ones. Time to run them through a chrono or put them out at 200 yards and see what they do! Great shooting! Scotty

Very nice! I can't help but notice, though, that you missed the dime ever time!

It is always satisfying to see accuracy after working diligently on a fine weapon system. Congratulations on a job well done.

Scotty, I plan on using the top two powders 4320 and 4065 plus that new IMR 8208xbr for the next series of tests. I will load each powder type in .5 gr increments to 1 gr over max in each powder. As I shoot I check for pressure signs. The point when I see pressure signs is my max load for that gun. I will shoot each string through chrono and pick the best of the best.

Thanks DrMike. I was positive that this gun wouldn't shoot but all it took was a trigger job and stock change. Any way you could tell me what kind of speed i can get out of IMR 4320, 4064, and 8208xbr? It looks like the 4320 isn't that fast.

I tried and tried but it kept jumping out of the way!

ScreaminEagle,

Barrel length? Bullet and weight? Provide this and I'll give you a QL sample. Know that the projected velocities are theoretical and must be verified. Velocities changer depending on a variety of factors, many of which you are not able to control.

I've read alot of good things about 8208. Seems like a great powder and since it is a stand by benchrest powder used by alot of folks, I tend to think it would be awesome in a 22-250. Scotty

That are certanly promising results right there. I'd be proud to put my name next to any of them.

DrMike, It is a 26" barrel, 1-14" twist. Bullet Sierra 52gr HPBT. CCI 200 primer. If I could get a sample for IMR 4320 and IMR 8208XBR that would be sweet! Thanks

Nice shooting! The IMR 4320 load looks great. What speed are you getting?

Wow, I might need to good around with those two. 3900+ out of 50gr'er bullets! Some serious spat factor! I have a ton of 50gr BT's also, so I might as well build something fun to shoot. The 60gr PT's are the hunting bullet. Scotty

I've been looking to try the IMR8208 myself. I'm not quite satisfied with Varget accuracy so have been looking for something else. Another that I want to try is IMR 4007ssc.

Have heard others did well with 4320 but not sure if I want to try that one.

I didn't shoot through the chrono today. I just focused on getting some tight groups. I did make up some new loads with IMR 4320 ranging from 35.5gr- 38gr in .5gr increments. Those I will chrono.

Thanks DrMike! That QL program looks like it would be fun to play around with. I might have to consider getting it.
