Pre 64 for Tom

Nice looking. However, at those prices I'll opt for one of the newer Winchesters.

I am with you guys. I am partially in love with my 264, and the Sporter stock is a good fit for me. I figured Tom would get a kick out of it though. I know he has been searching pretty hard to a nice Pre-64. That one seemed pretty nice to me. I am not sure about the price, but it didn't seem way outta line.

Actually, Tom's about ready to call it quits on the pre-'64 business.

It's just getting to be too much like work. I would like very much to own one, but I'm not sure I would like it enough to pay the cost of admission, both in money and in time/energy invested to make sure of a wise purchase.

So hopefully you are on your way to pick this rifle up! That is a nice one Tom. Very nice and the price looks pretty darned good as well. Hope it works out for you Tom. I know you have been run through on this deal. You will like the 264 buddy. It is a serious screamer!

There's a FN Model 70 Sporter in the used rack near me for $625. Looks hardly used. Problem is it's a 30-06. I know of your aversion towards this cartridge Tom. I'm very torn as I own a BDL in 30-06 that was supposed to be a donor but it shot too good. I don't trust myself to not shoot this rifle...

Tom, it looks to be in fine shape. The price is in line for what they go for. You can, however, pick up a new FN for slightly less than that.

Nice rifle but not at that price from price Gouger Mountian.
Tom, get a new one, they are nice looking rifles and they shoot!

Damn!
Maybe I'm crazy, but if I had a grand laying around I'd be on that thing like a hobo on a ham sandwich! Somebody has got to give that thing a home! Hopefully, somebody from here. It looks to be an unaltered pre-64 Westerner in pretty fair shape! Scotty knows my love for that particular rifle and how my stepfather dusted his first NM prairie goat with one just like it when he came over from TX. My two pre-64s (06 & .270) are both 3/4MOA guns. They just don't build 'em like they used to. Don't get me wrong, I've finally got my daughter's new M70 SG .270 shooting .67" (after some helpful advice to try RL22) and I about pissed myself when I found out they'd be making some new ones in .264WM, but there's just something about pre-64s. I really hope someone will give that orphan a home and keep us informed of all the game they take with it! Take it from me and my ratty ol' '49 .270. Those old timers can really hang and bring the heat.

I don't NEED a rifle, I was just looking at pre-64's.

At this point, I'm really inclined to simply forget I ever started myself on this cursed pre-64 road. Seems to be the best course of action at this point.

Oops. Just looked a little closer. Serial number puts it as a '62 manufacture, but it's kind of jacked up with the incorrect stock with a chunk missing out of it for a receiver sight to boot. Sorry guys, I get a little weak in the knees and crazy when someone mentions .264 Westerner.
Joe

Totally understand, Joe. If I ever get to where I'm a 'collector' rather than a 'user' (and independently wealthy) I'd love to have the whole set... African .458, Alaskan .338, and Westerner .264. (Plus a .300 Ooch and Ooch, don't'cha know).

Too much "White man's Burden" for me. I could not take some of them hunting, that is what they are for. I got a fake carbine (1st year production) from a big important dealer who shafted me. Then I went into lever actions and it got complicated.

I was happy to have some shooters around for hunting and no quilt!

The guys might be onto something with a new M70 264 Tom. Mine is an old beat up NH M70 that doesn't shoot for beans, so I can only imagine how well a newly made FN that was put together with someone who cares, shoots.

Yeah, that rotten ol' NH manufactured rifle is about worthless, Scotty. You'd better just send it on up to me so it won't be neglected down there in the US of A. Fine groups, by the way.

I have to throw it up there once in awhile. I really haven't had many issues with any of my NH M70's. Probably just got lucky, cause the most they have needed is a bedding job and all required a little trigger work.

Thanks again for all the help with it. It wouldn't have came together near as well if it wasn't for your load data!
