Awesome! Just awesome! She has officially won....wife of the year!

She is the best wife a young Marine could ask for... I am still not sure how I pulled her in!

Really nice late 1950's Model 70. It appears to be in really good condition and certainly shoots well! I don't know why you wanted to rebarrel the Model 70 unless you were going to use it for a project gun in another caliber. Most of the .270 Win Model 70's that I have seen from the era when yours was made would shoot or could easily be persuaded to shoot tight groups.

I have a Model 70, .270 Win, made in 1949, about the same time as yours but the stock on mine was ruined and I had to restock it. If my rifle had been in as good shape as yours, I would have left it as is. My .270 Win Model 70 has always shot really good groups though. I have had it now since 1973. You got a really good buy on the Leupold scope as well.

The plan was to turn it into a 7x57. Now that plan has changed. Thanks! I love the rifle.

My work here is getting done, slowly. If I could proselytize to and convince many here of how good the Pre-64 Model 70's are and how relatively cheap some are now compared to a couple of years ago. If I can get more of you guys converted and bought in, my work here is getting done! Every one of you who converts to a Model 70 makes me feel good about my life of owning these terrific rifles.

Wouldnt make any changes to that old timer, it shoots good and looks classic with that compact scope, work some reloads and take pride of your shooting iron. Nice pre-64.

All you old farts are wearing me down, that is for sure.. The Pre 64's really are some nicely built rifles..

We need to talk the good Doctor into one of them!

I figure one good turn deserves another!

Us'n old farts are smarter than we look! This verified by the number of you young whippersnapper's snapping up those Model 70 Pre 64's

DrMike alread has a couple or seven of Model 94's hanging around. I don't even pretend to know what he has put away in any one of his gunsafes.

Okay, fellows, I turned down a pre-64 Model 70 in .270 today. I'm doing a new build and needed a Model 70 action. However, I said that this one was in too good a shape to be cannibalized. I urged them to sell it to someone who would appreciate what the rifle was, and I'd buy a new action. The only actions on the used rack that could have been useful were XTRs, which I might have used. However, I preferred the CRF. The old pre-64 did look fairly nice, however. Just don't know if I could have forgiven myself if I cannibalized it, and I don't particularly want a .270.

The asking price was $750, which according to the market is not a bad price.

No, that is a steal Mike, if it is good condition.

I changed my mind, you should have purchased it! The last 3 non original ones I have seen have been from $850-$1,000!

Hmmmmm! Maybe I should hightail it back to my LGS. I just hate the idea that it is a 270.

I wouldn't ever call you crazy..

The 270 is a great round too Mike, although that isn't a gun you would want to rip apart though, lot's of others around for that.
