Looking for data in a 24" barrel, Lapua cases, 3.33" COAL. at 64K please. Some have used this as a close range load in this round as a thumper. I like the fact they come 100 to a box and are made to be accurate. If I never killed anything with them, at least I'd have fun shooting rocks in the desert! :)

Gosh! 2600 with R17 (of course, IF the rifle/brass like it) but I was surprised to see so many powders give a sold 2500fps! After I get my present bullets set up, I'l have to try some. Makes more sense than the 282 Hammer, and the old 250 GS. Thank you Doc! I appreciate the you taking the time to post that for me. I've been saving my little stash of R17 for my 7x57 ( yes, it is "almost done" the smith tells me...one year later!) But I have gotten great results in R16 and Hunter. I empirically cold tested Hunter in a 300WSM/168 load. I had worked it up in around 50-60 degrees and when it got around 25 that winter I clocked it again...zero loss! That surprised me! Thanks again Good Dr., you are a Scholar and a Gentleman! :)

I am looking forward to giving them a whirl. just got the box from Midway.

What does QL show for 64K, With the old Sierra 250 SBT? It would be interesting to see how they compare.

Maybe you can run one into some water jugs for us.

I sure will. I mocked up a few for my 338 Win. Once I get a decent load I’ll try one or two out. I’m pretty interested myself.

Using the 338-06 in Alaska and Washington State hunting for several years. I have concluded the 210Gr Nosler Part along with the 225gr Hornady SP-RP the perfect bullets for the 338-06. Any bullet heavier and you have ballistic like a 220gr in 30-06 not good. Reloader 17 was especially good reaching 2700 fps with the 225gr Hornady SP-RP in the Weatherby UL and makes a dandy elk rifle.

Thanks Alaska, sound advice. My little rifle doesn't seem to care for the 210 NP (older style with relief groove in middle) I have heard that Hornady 225 SP in .338 win mag had accuracy issues, you ever hear this? It may have been a bad batch, but heck this was 40 years ago!

The 210 gr PT is a solid choice. Accurate and penetrates, it hits way above it's weight class.

It took me months to find, bid on and win the one box of 210 Partitions I just tried. I also didn't find a sweet spot with the few 200 NABs I had scrounged up, so I traded the remainders to a guy whose rifle does love them. Strange, as my rifle does well with the older 200 NBT (uncoated, pre Combined Technology days) and the Barnes 210 TTSX. The 175 Hammers just dialed in like they were made for my rifle, ha. So I'm just looking at finding useful loads for the 250's I have on hand ( Speer GS, Sierra SBT and some Hornady Spire Pts) So far, the 175 Hammer would most likely be first up on the next cow elk I draw down on. I still like to work up heavies on the other end, just in case the Circus Elephant gets loose or a Skinwalker shows up!!....:)

That's great intel Alaska! Thank you.

I was planning to start with RL17 and 225's anyhow.

In 24” you can easily reach 2700 FPS with the 225 SP-RP Hornady with RL 17. Suggest WW or Norma brass to do so.

I ended up using reformed Lapua brass but it made 2700 with no sweat using 225 ABs. Haven’t quite figured out the accuracy button yet but it’s coming around.

You are almost there. A little tweaking with the COL and you should be where you want to be.
That would make for a dandy elk load.

Watching you close Scotty! I plan on using these Speer 225s to fireform my 338/06 Ackley. I just have never hunted/used 225 in any medium, ha. "But if I do", I think I trust the Hornady 225 to be a bit tougher than these Speer BTs.

The Hornady 225 SP-RP is an excellent bullet for 338-06 and Reloader 17 the perfect powder !
