QuickLoad questions thread...

I have used QL for a number of years. I have found out to be a valuable tool! I don't consider it fool proof. I find it differs a lot with loads for the 45/70.

The other way to do it easier is buy QuickDesign which is made to work with QuickLoad. You can modify, alter or adapt cartridges in it and run them in quickload
Cool way to actually use QuickLoad on wildcats

I just found this sticky, and I'm glad I did. I've owned QL for several years but don't feel like I've really fully used it. Re: QuickDesign, I have a copy as well. I like wildcats, so marrying the two has been very helpful in getting started on load development. One question: Does any sort of repository exist for QD users to exchange wildcat cartridge files (.ctg format)?

Crud, just saw this.
I don't know.
I'll email out there and find out.
Sure would be cool to be able to exchange QD files.

I have some Nosler 53 gr. hpfb Nosler #39560. Is there some load data anywhere for the 22 Nosler, Would like to try these using cfe223. Thank you

Couldn't find that bullet in the database. Ran 52 gr CC instead.

I’m not sure if this is the right spot for a request? If not please disregard.

I’m having trouble getting a load that is over 3000fps (180gr) for a 300winmag and accurate. I have found an average on but its so damn slow it’s boring lol.

I would love to get a time in the barrel to look for a node or point me close to it.

I have all the info you should need;
Model 70 Supergrade with 24” barrel
Case capacity in h2o: 93.6gr
Case length: 2.602”
COAL: 3.515 (does not fit the mag fyi) (trying to track down a 375h&h box etc)
Projectile Nosler BT 180gr - 30180 part no
Powder is ADI2217 or H1000 (same) @ 81grs
Using a Fed 215M primer.

This load has given me 3020fps average through a shooting chrony.

Many thanks to anyone who could spend the time to run this through their program.

Cheers

Anthony, how is your load shooting at 3020?

Have you tried differing the seating depth?

H1000 isn't especially fast in the 300 Win, it is typically a 3000 sorta powder in a 24" barrel. Do you have any other options?

SF,
Grouping is average at best, I was wondering what QL would put the pmax at so I can load up a little. I have tried AR2213sc (H4831sc) with little success.

I have tried seating depths but am open to suggestions. With the powder load the depth I quoted seemed best. It approx 40thou off lands.

What powder do you recommend?

Hi Anthony,
I used IMR 4350 and was just under 3000 fps with AccuBond.

OAL that worked for my 300WM is written on the target. ABs like Jump

DrMike, Thank you very much!

None of the 2 loads you show are close to a OBT node unless its very slow.

No idea where to go from here

Not sure what to give you as far as advice and what powders are available to you, but a couple 300's I have ran did anywhere from 3000-3100 (H4831SC, RL22, IMR7828SSC, RL25) with most of the Nosler 180's. My OLD elk hunting partner uses H4350 and his accuracy in an old beat up Model 70 is usually outstanding, even running 50 year old Partitions or whatever he has squirreled away on the shelf. I wouldn't be concerned if the load ran 2950 or 3050 as long as it was accurate. If you have Retumbo it may be worth a shot as well.

If you aren't getting the accuracy you think you want start moving that AccuBond away from the rifling, I'd probably try .020" at a spell, usually something will jump out at you. Some have luck close up, I have not though.

I suppose one more thing,

Have you gotten any weight bullet to shoot well? If not, might be time to look at the screw length on you scope mounts. If you have one thread too many, your scope position can vary shot to shot and make clover leaf look like a 2” group.

Building a 338 RUM load for a hunting buddy. Starting components as follows.

250 grain Barnes LRX
New Remington brass
O.A.L. will be set at maximum
26" Barrel
Federal 215 primer

I'm thinking of starting with Allients Reloder 33, but I'd like a look at the other useful powders & estimated speeds please.

Anyone?

There's no 250 LRX, its a 265 so I ran that

Can you run the following for me?
IMR4895, Winchester brass, 308 Winchester, 20 inch barrel, 178 grain HORNADY ELD-X, 2.860 OCL.
Not ideal but I've been using up old lots of powder in my Rem 40X. Gone thhrough RL15, Varget, 4064, and VV550 cans and now left w 4 pounds of 4895!
PS, I was surprised to see 4895 had such a high flame temperature on QL.
