Range Day for the .257 Roberts

T.D: I have to check the twist on this barrel but it looks like a 1 In 10 inch. Although twist rate could be why I am not having much luck with the 110 Accubonds? So far the IMR 4350 is working great with the 100 grain bullets. I have not seen any 760 Winchester around here for awhile but I will keep my eyes open. I do have some H-380 on hand, I could try that? It is about the same burning rate as 760.

Charlie - with the 85 and the 100's shooting well, you really don't need anything else.

That 100 gr Partition will take care of anything a .257 ought to be used on I'd think. I gave serious consideration to sticking with 100's for my .25-06 several years ago, they were shooting great. Then I got all interested in shooting heavier bullets and have stuck with them, but I don't think they really give me much that the 100's didn't.

I am sure that you are right Guy but I have bought (6) boxes of the 110 AccuBond bullets. With all of the supply shortage nonsense going on, I got carried away and bought all of these bullets. I just hope that I can use them. The 85 gr and 100 Partitions will certainly work well for me. I just hope that the 110 AB's will as well?

I understand 'bout buying a mess of bullets. I've got more .257" bullets than I'll likely ever shoot from my .25-06... Mostly 115's of one sort or another, but some 100's too.

I'm hoping those 110's work out well from your rifle. I haven't tried the 110 Accubonds from my .25-06 yet, or from my son's .257 Weatherby. That might make an interesting combo!

Charlie, just remember, the AB's seem to want more of a jump into the rifling, even as much as .1 or more. My 300WSM has been giving me fits with the 200 AB, so I finally just took some of my own advice and pushed them back.. We shall see, but I am looking at old groups and they seem to be shrinking as I go back, so I would give it a whirl. It has worked for a bunch of others I have used...

Scotty, I did push the Accubonds back in the .280 and in the 7mm Mag and they shot pretty good. In fact I had them at factory COAL in the .340 as well and they shot good groups. I think that you are on to something! I have to pull the ones loaded with the H100V as they are way too hot. I will try them at COAL.

The WBY sorta is a different egg, as the freebore is kinda different for bullet seating, and projections Charlie, but the 280 and 7 Mag are pretty standard and I would think your 257 being normal, just long throated should react the same.

I will certainly let you know how I do with the 300 and 200 AB's. If they don't shape up tomorrow, I am moving to something else.... Plenty of other good bullets out there, so I can't see burning up more good powder for something that is so finicky. Mike warned me the 200 was hard to get to shoot in his WSM as well. As I have thought a 100 times before, I should have listened, but I am too hard headed to give up, as I know you probably are as well...

I wish you luck. Hopefully the Accubonds treat us both well!

Scotty, that is why I shoot the 210 Partition in the Sako .338 Federal. I could not get the AB's to shoot in that caliber.

I'm not opposed to switching to the 200 PTs. Those shoot pretty well in my 300.

Going to give them one more shot then back to PTs.

That is one thing in the modern world, lots of bullets to choose from. However, after nearly 50 years with Partitions, I can not fault them for anything. My entire life of long range deer hunting in the Rockies would not have been the same without them. Give them their due when it is due, they did the job and never failed me!

Charlie, you are absolutely right 8) I have used Partitions for over 40 years and never had a complaint. I do not use them as much anymore because on paper they do not shoot quite the group that the ABs do. However in the field I never had a animal advise me that the Partition didn't do its job.

Blessings,
Dan

Dan, I shoot the Ballistic Tips for the tight groups. The Partitions I save for when every bullet has got to count and do its job for practical accuracy, expansion and penetration!
