Remington CDL Customer Satisfaction

I had a HS Precision Stock and a Jewell trigger here waiting for my CDL 243 to arrive. So now it's down to the barrel. Load development is under way. The jury is still out. One thing surprising is the lack of fouling and copper in the barrel. It's one of my cleanest shooting so far. Groups are .75"ish yet but I'm still working on it.

I have only owned 4 Remington 700's in my life however 3 of the 4 were shooters. I currently only own one and it is a late 70's ADL in 25-06 Remington. The only thing it has shot bad were the first Accubonds on top of RL22. Everything else shoots straight as can be. The 6mm Remington and 8mm Remington Mag were 1990's vintage BDL's and shot very good but I decided to send them down the river. The 6mm mostly because I like my 25-06 better and its a bit more versatile, the 8mm Rem Mag was a mistake which I have regretted often since then. Needed money and it was the only one I could part with.

The 4th was a Model 700 SPS that I bought in 2003 and that gun was a nightmare from the beginning. It jammed every other time you worked the action. The bolt stop release would get stuck in the release position and when you went to chamber the round the bolt would come all the way out. Haha it gets better. The Rifle shot well though it was exceptionally picky with the loads it shot well and the cases which had been fired in it and full length resized still had to be forceably chambered. The only other guns I have ever seen do that were Remington 710's and 770's, a newer Savage 116, and a Browning A-Bolt. So about then I was getting a little tired of the aggravation. Called up Big Green and asked them what they would like to do. The Rep seemed pretty unconcerned and said he would get a box out to me to ship it back and they would have a look at it. Unbeknownst to them I had already had two different smiths look at it. I asked for a refund or replacement and he said no. So I sold it to a Gunsmith who already had some kind of WSM wildcat project he needed a donor for. I told him everything about it and he still wanted it. Gave me cash for it and I have never missed that rifle at all since! Funny how many Remington Stories are popping up...

Like I have said, when in doubt just buy the Winchester!

I heard this from another forum member. He said be believes Remington's give a Da$n is busted. Thought it was very fitting and really makes alot of sense one some folks get a rifle that is just incredible while others really have to put their work gloves on to make them shoot. Scotty

Unfortunately, I could start a thread asking about USRA Winchesters manufactured from 2000-2006 and I think it would get the same type of results. Fortunately, Browning resurrected the company and moved their operation to FN Herstal's plant which has a strong sense of QA and pride due to the number of USGI contracts awarded there.

Recently, I have worked with a 300WSM Sporter and a 7mm-08 Featherweight which disappointed the owners so much that one was sold and the other relegated to "it shoots minute of deer" status.

Hopefully Remy will see the error of their ways. I'm just not certain if it's a purposeful management decision to cut manufacturing quality to save costs or a lack of integrity/accountability/talent of the workforce at hand. Or both.

Both is what I'm thinkin'.

For sure, there has been a decision to make the company profitable through cutting costs. Unfortunately, the customer base suffers, which cannot be good for business.

Bought my 700 CDL, a .25-06 with the dreaded J-Lock, not long after Remington introduced the CDL. Also had a .300 Rem Ultra Mag 700 CDL, but it was a bit too much cartridge in too light of a rifle for me. Accuracy was fine, and the ballistics of the .300 RUM were great, but... Ugh... I wanted something that didn't kick so doggone much! A 200 gr Nosler Partition at 3200 fps in a relatively light rifle... Hmmmm... No wonder I wasn't consistent with it!

The .25-06 700 CDL? What can I say? All I did was adjust the trigger, mount a 6x scope, sight it in and go kill mule deer & coyotes... It typically shoots a tad under MOA with 100 - 115 gr bullets, and has accounted for mule deer from 30 - 400 yards. All dropped instantly when hit. Yes, count me as a satisfied 700 CDL customer. Here's a few photos of the .25-06 CDL Death Ray:

Very close to the same thing, particularly if you go the .257 AI route... I doubt any of my mule deer or coyotes would have known it was a "mere" .257 shutting them down.
