I think the Number1 is one fine rifle, classic looks & fine balance, just alot of class. However, a Number1 that I had in the past just did not group for me & we have all heard the horror stories of the past. True, I bought it in the era when the Ruger barrels were less than stellar. I hear this has changed a good deal lately. I have seen good results from #1's from Guy, POP & others & it has caused me to rethink this matter & I would like to own a #1.
I saw from a forum somewhere (I think from POP actually), that Ruger offers a #1 in 264WM. I want a Ruger#1 in some chambering & I want a 264 in a GOOD rifle.
But, is this a logical matchup, or should I get a Number 1 in a diff. cal & a 264 in a bolt gun? By that I mean in my opinion a 264WM is useless unless the rifle is accurate enough to take advantage of the round's capabilities. I do have the Seyfried article to accurize a #1 & I am not opposed to doing that.
What do you guys think?

Man, I would go for that in a heartbeat. It has a long barrel, and the new Rugers seem to have excellent barrels on them. Seems like a match made in heaven. I have a void of no 6.5's in my safe, and the 264WM is a very neat cartridge, just runs very close to my 270WSM so I haven't pushed very hard for one, yet! Good luck, sounds like a neat rifle, with alot of capability. Scotty

Here is a neat Ruger, but I think they missed the mark with only a 24" barrel. Looks like a sharp rifle though!

If they make the 264 mag with a 26" barrel or longer get it. If it is 24" or less I would let it pass. It takes at least a 26" barrel to make the 264 mag do it's thing. If you get one try Retumbo powder and the 130 Nosler AccuBond bullet. My custom Rem 700 has a 27 3/4" Shilen barrel and it get 3350 fps with 66.5 grs Retumbl and the 130 AB and one hole accuracy at 100 yards. Killed 4 deer this past season with this combo and it really does the job.

Man, that would be sweet to have that 130gr AccuBond singing that fast! That is right in there with the 270WBY and better shaped bullets. Scotty

I think that the .264 has always been underated, its a beautiful long range deer and antelope cartridge and will probably work for elk with the heaviest bullets. Its not heavy on the recoil side either. I had thought that most of the Number 1 problems were associated with the forearm attachment and had been more or less solved several years ago. Mine shoots very fine however its a short range rifle so it is not necessary for it to shoot little, itty bitty groups. Nor do I think that is necessary on most hunting rifles. I doubt that most of the game that you shoot will know whether or not you are shooting a 24 or 26 inch barrel. I have been hunting for a while and do not own a rifle with a barrel longer than 24 inches. It fact most are shorter than that. If I were you I would go for it.!!!

A #1 with a 26" tube would handle like a bolt rifle with a 22" barrel. Remember you don't have all that action length to deal with.

Yes, that's one of the things I really like about the Number 1.

I received good info here & good advise from Guy & POP, both have some of these rifles & both have enjoyed good results.

I have one on order, I hope my dealer can secure one for me!!

I hope you get it too - except for an extractor problem with my 7mm Rem Mag, all of my Number One rifles have shot well. I like that 7mm mag, and a .264 Win mag is a very similar cartridge - should work well...

And it would have an incredible COOL factor going...
