I picked up a new Savage 12 VLP in a 300WSM. It's the heavy 26" SS barrel. I put it in a HS-Precision stock and a Vortex 6x24 Viper PST. I just need a trigger and I'm set. I loaded some 180 BT for break in, maybe this week end.
This is going to be a fun gun!

I do like the cartridge. I have no doubt that the Savage will meet your expectations.

Sweet. That rifle does have the potential to be a 1 holer.

Should be a great gun, keep us up to date on how things are going.

Teknys-
Protocol dicates that photos of said potential tack driver are required.... :) CL

Sweet looking rig you put together! That should be a thumper for a good stretch downrange!

It certainly does look business-like. I have no doubt it will perform well for you.

Here is a group after 12 - 15 shots and the last cleaning.
100yds off of a card table.

It has potential. The first two groups were about 1.5" and then 1.25" and then 1" with cleaning between. It got a little better after each cleaning.

Good deal; the rifle does look as if it is living up to expectations.

Long,
your question on weight and another post about the weight of our hunting rifles made me curious. I've never really weighed my hunting guns.
So....
Sako75 Finnlight w/4.5x14 CDS = 8.5#
Sav 16 Bear Hunter w/3.5x10 VX-L = 9.5#
Sav 10 Pred MAX 243 w/Vortex PST = 10.5#

The gun in this post:
Sav 12 VLP w/Vortex PST 6x24 - 11.5#

My intent in the near future for this gun is for medium range (500 -800 yds) play / hunting for deer / coyotes. Presently I have started archery hunting for elk so they are safe from me.
