Scotty and Woodycreek @ 300 yards

With the 400 grain bullets at about 1800 fps, you can do a heart shot from any angle, DrMike.

Very nice work gentlemen! Awesome groups! I'm really impressed, particularly with the RUM.

That 200 NAB will be fantastic! Veddy nice...

Well, I just thought, you being the generous fellow you are that you'd want to help out Brian who has only recently seen the light that opens when one handles fine firearms.

Consequently, Scotty, I'm eying a new 1886 chambered in 45-70. If I secure it, I'll put a Williams peep sight on it and use it as a bush gun. It is a pretty skookum rifle, I tell you. Even a blind guy like me could use that with an appropriate sight on it. I have a Williams I pulled off a Model 94, but I'll have to do some horse trading to get one that fits the Model 86. The price isn't bad. I'll see in the next few days how bad the hit is going to be on the firearms I have on the go and see how much extra work I have to do. I'm working up a 7mm RUM and a 22-250 AI right now, and doing some work (finally) on my new .280. The 9.3 X 64 was test fired yesterday and it will shortly have the extractor groove cut. It is moving along. Hopefully, I'll have a couple of posts shortly.

I hate to say it but if that 45-70 bites into you like it has me you will love it and find it hard to hunt with anything else. Love the big 45! It is a truly remarkable cartridge that is tailor made for them moose, elk and bear at knife fighting range Mike!

Looking forward to hearing about that 9.3. I imagine it is going to be a thumper.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the pictures of your 1886 Mike. They are some fine rifles. The Williams should work really well on it and give you plenty of range. Scotty

The fellow that test fired the 9.3 (without a stock) told me this morning that it was really something. He said it felt like he'd grabbed hold of one of the old big bore, black powder rifles. It will be good to have opportunity to pop caps with the rifle.

Looks like the Nosler forum's answer to "TOP SHOT" 8)
Great shooting with all rifles. You are ready

Nice shooting guys. Scotty, that is pretty fast MV for a 250 gr Partition out of a .338 WM, good accuracy as well.

Are the new Model 70's with the MOA triggers fully adjustable for creep and weight. I have heard that they are (sort of). That is one thing that I really liked about the older Model 70 was the trigger mechanism and geometry which allowed you to almost infinitely set creep limits and weight of pull. I have both my Model 70's, Mauser, Sako (Mauser) and Mark V (Timney) adjusted to about 2+ pounds of pull with no creep on all but a small amount on the Mark V Timney. The nice thing is that all of these Mauser based triggers can be set mechanically to feel very similar for creep and pull weight. The new geometry kinetics of the MOA trigger look to me (without physically laying the trigger linkage out via Descriptive Geometry) to be somewhat limited in creep adjustment? Correct me if I am wrong.

OT3 - I have a SC built featherweight that the smith worked the trigger over when it was changed from a 300 to a 264 WSM. There is no creep in my trigger.

Whoa, I was hesitant to open the thread as the title lead me to think "Ok, what are they doing at 300 yards that they dont want us to see close up?". Just never know with them boys from the hills of Virginny..

But what a relief to see some great shooting!!

Rod
